The Invitational Chequebook Baabaas XV gets a challenge too, @Chris-B will need to find new material in his quest for the broken record award.

Thames Valley are playing Mid Canterbury in a Heartland Championship game on Saturday 21st August as a curtain-raiser to Waikato-Taranaki in Hamilton. This will be a triple-header as the other game is Waikato vs Counties Manukau (FPC). All games to be televised.

We get scheduled a challenge in Week 10?
Like you guys aren't going to lose it before then.
I see those Waikato fluffybunnies get their umpteenth challenge since we last had one second up.
Can the Silver Lake deal. If anyone needs evidence that those sleepy fuckers at NZ Rugby couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery....

@bovidae The last time the Magpies held the Shield, we lost it in the final round to Waikato, so there's hope for both Waikato and Ta$man. We defended it successfully against challenges from Northland, North Harbour, Bay of Plenty and Auckland. That last one was hilarious, because the Aucklanders had come with their full squad and had special "Ranfurly Shield winners" jerseys made, which they could throw straight into the bin after the game.

Look who gets the first challenge, and they aren't even a Premiership team. The other games are just home fixtures.
Otago?
I don't think they've had as many challenges as Waikato since we last had one. Pretty sure you feckers hold that record - 6 or 7.
But, Mark Robinson will be going through his processes and letting the outcome take care of itself....
-
@bovidae It's very, very unlikely that HB chose the cross-over game against Otago and North Harbour.
Based on the regulations, the Magpies games were picked as follows.
First round of picks (HBRU pick first; it will be home game for the Championship team):
The Hawke's Bay RU picked the away game v Taranaki or Manawatu.
Second round of picks (picked by Championship team; it will be home game for the Championship team:
Manawatu picked: Manawatu v Mapies
or Taranaki picked: Taranaki v Magpies
Third round of picks:
The Magpies got to pick last, so only who was left of the Ch'ship teams. So no choice.
Fourth round of picks (Championship team picks; it will be home game for the Premiership team) :
The highest ranked Ch'ship team most likely chose the Shield challenge, so that would be North Harbour.
Conclusion: only if North Harbour didn't pick the Ranfurly Shield challenge, it was probably Otago who picked it. Not the HBRU.

@stargazer Haha that's right, 2015 in the pouring rain, and yes, we go what we deserved for that stunt.

Good news though!!!
In the unlikely event that Otago somehow manage to beat Hawkes Bay, their first challenger would be Canterbury. And that's only ending one way.
And when Canterbury win - WE would actually get a challenge.
It's possible that I may not have to cheer on Hawkes Bay at all!!!!

Otago has also had 6 challenges since then, Wellington (2) along with Ta$man the least.

I think Auckland is in the second-longest drought now - five years and counting. That was about the point where I started getting cross.
We're getting close to nine years and my care factor is almost zero.
We have transcended the shield!!!
-
good that the Bay get to start the season with a spirit lifting win over the South Central Vikings. With our coach now widely regarded as the best in the country, i am bullish about the year
As for the Shield, going off history, Otago will lose their challenge in heartbreaking circumstances, Harbour will enter the match confident and then completely shit the bed, so we just need to hope that HB can hold off Waikato in their 365th shield game in the past 20 years.
-
@mariner4life Daryl Gibson is your coach now.
-
@mariner4life You better hope that we have transcended the NPC and Fozzie picks the Ta$man All Blacks. Otherwise:
Moli, Makalio, Lomax, Strange, Parkinson, Blackadder, Havili, Frizell, Christie, Hunt, Fainga'anuku, Havili, Paea, Reece, Jordan
Edit: Maybe Nankivell at centre.

Wellington's RS challenge last year was their first since 2014. Both have been against Hawke's. Auckland's last appears to be in 2015. BOP a week earlier that year.

@mariner4life Even I couldn't come up with something so twisted.
