Good yarn except the match was played in fucken Auckland haha

Never said it was anywhere else. They were out there changing the weather, rubbing their shoes on the pitch, bought the grounds person (never assume gender). Rumours have it ball tampering involved.

    Just found those straws.

Anyone still alive ? Perhaps we could assemble survivors for a rematch ?

@snowy I know you jest and the 26 does irk me as week but we have had way more abject batting performances.

We can all fap away about the current side but their performances on the last tour of Oz were way more disappointing than a bunch of amateurs caught on a sticky wicket against a good England side. Three of the current side were in the team that gave a heartless display in reaching 45 at Cape Town in 2012.

So yeah I want the monkey of 26 off my back(thought England were going to do it a couple of years back) but I have seen much worse batting performances from NZ unfortunately.

Trivia that actually is a bit of a straw to clutch. NZ has the lowest test innings but its not the lowest collective batting performance in a completed innings. In 1924 Sth Africa got to 30 against England but extra's was11. So their eleven batsmen only managed 19in total with no one making double figures. A pyrrhic victory to us!

I jest because it hurts slightly less and it has more than irked me for a lot longer than a week.

I would suggest that we don't delve into great NZ cricket batting failures any further - this will be a really long (and depressing) thread. I will take the small victory there though, thankyou. I have mentioned extras earlier, trust him to show when he wasn't wanted.

    This one offered massive hope.

Oz was 9 down for 21 where we went 9 down for 26 - another pyrrhic victory!

@MN5 - none of those guys are alive. John Reid and Matt Poore both died last year and they were the last.

I was of the impression that our IPL contingent may not be available for the first test against England? Which would then provide an opportunity to play Conway in Kane's place and all sorts of experimentation with the bowlers, and then effectively pick the team for the WTC final to play together in the second test against England...??

No research obviously, but Lou Vincent as well?

Yes. Sixth kiwi to get a ton on debut. Only the second to do it overseas.

Would have been handy when they decided that this was important at Lords:
"Vincent equalled the most runs scored in boundaries (118 runs in boundaries) by a batsman in an ODI innings, when he scored 172 against Zimbabwe on 24 August 2005."

Fucking hell, the fact that a player like Vincent holds that record just really highlights again how absolutely ludicrous it was to decide a match on boundaries scored. I will be triggered for the rest of my life over that, and I'll make sure my bitterness lives on in my sons when I'm gone.

That's the spirit. You might be a millennial but we can make a GOM out of you yet. I can't listen to The Stranglers anymore because the prick of a lead singer changed the lyrics of Peaches to take the piss about our loss. He did get beer thrown over him though (not be me, I was out of range) because of it, so that was good.

Edit: that reminds me I need to cancel my subscription now that cricket has finished.

It was surprisingly easy to suspend my subscription, just one click of a button.

I honest thought it’d be way harder, as most companies don’t like to make it easy for you to quit their services.

Making it easy to pick and choose when I want to be signed up most certainly means I’ll be back.

@gunner Cool. Will do that now. It should be just as easy to turn it on again before 2nd June for the England tests.
It's probably been raised before, but they aren't doing the WTC. I think Sky still has rights to all ICC tournaments. All a bit of a mess really.

As a side note did anyone notice if Conway got his residency issue sorted? That's NZ residency, not eligibility to play for us obviously. It was going to take 8 months to get it through and won't be allowed back into the country unless he has it.

    @bovidae Cheers.
Wish I knew many years ago that all you needed to do to get residency fast tracked was play for the Black Caps. My wife might have been good enough to make the team at the time too (a reflection on the cricket team not my wife's cricketing ability).

Some good news I only just picked up on is that Captain Kane's IPL team is bottom of the table. That should presumably release him from those commitments early?

I genuinely wonder how the NZers , and English and Indians, will get out of India and to England. How many options will be available by the time IPL ends?

Where will they have to do quarantine?

Logistical nightmare, some administrators will be earning their money.

@rapido Yeah that was the reason for moving WTC to South Hampton. Has it's own hotel and training grounds so the players can be in their own bubble and still practice. The England matches aren't so easy.

How many IPL players are in our test team apart from Kane, Trent, Kyle, maybe Santner? I haven't been watching it.

Yes, but things have changed since they made those arrangements.

Countries, including UK and NZ, are stopping flights from India, and dis-allowing non-citizens travelling from India even when transiting through 3rd countries.

Airlines, are pausing the flights. UAE stopped flights from India, Qatar still open at the moment.

It can still be done, but, there will be a lot of furious paddling under the water going on at the moment to line this up.

A political exception would have to be made if they do quarantine in UK (at Southampton) and at very least it won't be with rest of squad. It may have to be in a hotel in Doha, while they still can.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-56806103

India has been added to a “red list” of countries from which most travel to the UK is banned, over fears of a new Covid variant, the health secretary has said.

From 04:00 BST on Friday 23 April, most people who have travelled from India in the last 10 days will be refused entry.

British or Irish passport holders, or people with UK residence rights, will be allowed in but must quarantine in a government-approved hotel for 10 days.

There's 3 weeks to go to end of round robin, a month to end of finals. Time for things to change, better, worse (or same).

(Jamieson is other NZ test player with IPL contract, Matye CdG as well as fringe player, but I dunno - he's been injured, I also don't watch it).

South Hampton would be South South Peterborough I think.
