2021 Hawke's Bay club rugby

From the "Club rugby" article below:
The tournament features 16 club teams, split across four competitive divisions, and a Presidents match. The top tier Spillane Cup is between the top four seeded teams based on last year’s results. Saturday’s semi-finals see Hamilton Marist and Hastings Rugby & Sports clash on the number one ground at 1.30pm, followed by defending champions Napier Old Boys Marist and Hutt Old Boys Marist at 3.00pm. The Division 2 semi-finals for the Ham Cumming Cup over on the number two field see North Harbour Marist and Palmerston North Marist meet in the first game and Rotorua Marist and Marist St Pat’s contest the second fixture. Division 1 and 2 matches on Sunday see the winners play the winners and losers play the losers. The Ham Cumming Cup winners earn promotion to the main draw at the expense of the fourth placed top tier finisher. MSP finished fourth last year, hence why they are in the Division 2 this year. Whanganui and Masterton Marist vie on Saturday for the division 3 Brennan Cup. There is also a four team Colts section for the Moran Cup, with day one games between North Harbour Colts and Hutt Old Boys Marist Colts and Marist St Pat’s and Taupo Marist Colts. The other match on Saturday is a one-off fixture between the Hutt Old Boys Marist Presidents and the Taupo Marist/Greerton Marist Presidents.

@bovidae Maybe because they just came out of level 2? The Covid situation will have affected their trainings the past few weeks.
Possibly, although North Harbour Marist was there.

From the article below:
Hastings... will be at least temporarily without Magpies midfielder Neria Fomai, who is on a short-term Super Rugby contract with the Highlanders. They have also lost Jayden Rihia (moved to Australia) and Antonio Mikaele Tu'u (out for the season with a ruptured Achilles) ...
Pirates... picked up some talented youngsters from the Hawke's Bay academy system ...
Tamatea... have also recruited, well adding Magpies Lincoln McClutchie and Kianu Kereru-Symes ...
Taradale... loss of club legend Andrew Gardner offset by new recruit Kienan Higgins from Wellington ...
MAC... take Hurricanes Development prop Paula Latu and Magpies flanker Solomone Funaki ...
Central... having picked up 2020 NZ Secondary Schools first five Harry Godfrey from Whanganui and Joeli Suka from Hastings Rugby and Sports.
Havelock North... should have former Magpie and Highlanders wing Ryan Tongia and the abrasive Tony Lamborn at their disposal ....
Napier Tech... a number of the squad retiring from rugby ...
I think Zac Guildford is one of them?
Clive... have brought in lock Jay Tuavaiti from Auckland ...
Napier OB Marist... have a new coach in Ellery Wilson, and with the returning Paul Bickle and promising new first five Jonte Millar from Feilding High School ...
I really hope they'll publish a more comprehensive article soon, with all the premiers team lists, like in previous years. -
@stargazer I think I can just about tolerate Kurt Baker at Club level but that's about the limit to any affection toward him!!!! Wonder who the Texan's retirements might be (apart from myself who is scaling back to Golden Oldies level this season), maybe TBW and Tim Farrell amongst others?
-
You might not be able to get much info about HB club matches other than quotes from Team Managers about who played well but it is very pleasing to know we can still get comprehensive newspaper reports about Sheep Dog Trials. Only people form rural provinces can be aware of the importance and significance of that sport.
It might even deserve to have it's own thread!

Hawke's Bay RU AGM tonight.
Profit of $713,579 declared for a 22nd consecutive profit. Reserves now at $2.4 million.
Emma Jensen was voted on to the Board.
11 Colts teams are entered for the 2021 club competition - the most since 2002.
2002....when I made my Tech Colts debut as a lanky underweight 15 year old.

@magpie_in_aus You will be pleased to know that along with the 2020 Black & White Trophy we won for the best Club overall we also won the Pat Ryan Memorial Trophy for the Colts/Under 21 Grade. At this stage we are still (and have been since 2018) the NZ Club One Day Cricket Champions but have to put that title at stake this coming weekend I think. I am doing a rain dance in the hope that it might wash out the entire tournament thus enabling the Mighty Texans to retain the Title for yet another season!!!!!!!!

I am pretty sure that McClutchie was playing for Tamatea last year wasn't he, or did he leave Tamatea the year before, and is returning to them?
-
@stockcar86 No those 2 and Mason Kean all played for MAC last year and have all gone back to tamatea.
