Rugby on Stan

In the process of ditching Foxtel. Which is like pulling teeth. How much is Stan? Probably some other decent content there as well.
$10 on top of a normal subscription, we pay $14 for the HD and multiple devices but the cheapest is $10 (so would be $20 in total)

Has anyone tried watching a few games? What's the streaming quality like? Some people on FB have been complaining about the picture being a bit choppy, but then again it could simply be their TV sets.
Or the quality of their internet connection.

Looks similar to Kayo - I've just put one of the old Aotearoa matches on. I never find streaming site sport as clear as a tv box.
Haven't tried on my Apple TV, using the Stan up on my Samsung. I tend to find AppleTV has better quality than apps on the TV's themselves.

price: $10 on top of any Stan package BUT the sport is in HD even if you buy SD Stan. So you might as well pay$14 base for
SDHD quality and at the sport. -
quality is ok. Had a bit of a blip here and there if I was pausing/rewinding a lot
-
can't get rid of Kearns, unfortunately

That plan falls down the moment one of the normal Stan shows catches your eye.

Watching live now using latest Google Chromecast. Smooth as a porn star's nethers
The picture was perfect for the first 50 odd minutes but it now keeps on dropping to a lower resolution. Teething problems are to be expected I suppose.

I had drop outs for the first 15 minutes (as did my mate on my other device) then it was perfect.
The picture was better than the game footage I watched earlier today and better than what Kayo served up.
Hopefully they sort all issues this weekend in time for the actual start next weekend.

@nepia Yeah can't complain about the picture quality when it's in HD. It's as good as my Foxtel satellite picture which I wasn't expecting from a streaming service.
Me either, as I think I mentioned earlier today when discussing the pic on a Kayo.
It’s bloody awesome actually.

Agreed. I think they must have been given SD footage then upscaled it.
Watching a game from 2014 the ball got a bit blurry when it started to move fast, but live last night no such issues -

But I'm about to go to the pub, so will catch it later
This is one problem with the rugby being on Stan. Surely the days of catching a game at the pub are gone. I can't imagine pubs would have Stan.

I was thinking today about the licensing setup and how that works for venues.
The erosion of traditional pay TV promises to be interesting

its an interesting idea, i wonder what the deal is
during our lockdown i was talking to the owner of one of our local pubs, asked if he was showing the AFL whist i was waiting for takaway
he said foxtel charges hundreds a week to be able to show it in a pub and it was one of the first things they got rid of...like stupid money, if stan/9 are cleaver they'll look at that
-
It's hard to imagine Aussie pubs forking out for Stan for rugby unless it is dirt cheap. Different story if it was NRL or AFL obviously, but rugby just doesn't seem to have the pull over here. The screens with Super Rugby always seem to be the ones being ignored.
-
@crazy-horse When I was in Adelaide last year during the initial Super Rugby season, they didn't even show many games on Fox Sports.
-
There's a bit more to it.
A deal fell through late last week.
Some dodginess going on by the sounds.
The majority of Super Rugby matches will not be aired in pubs and clubs around Australia after a deal between Stan Sport and Sky Channel was pulled on the eve of the first game of the season. Sources with knowledge of negotiations told the Herald the deal was scuppered at the 11th hour after a Tabcorp senior executive learnt Sky Channel had reached an agreement without the consent of its parent company, Tabcorp. Equally, Tabcorp officials were concerned that Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys, a key partner of the wagering giant, had not been consulted prior to the deal being brokered. Industry sources say V’landys, who is also the chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, had not vetoed the deal. However, they say he was unhappy about Sky Channel’s agreement with Stan Sport as he believed it would have a negative impact on wagering.
