James Anderson wow. A fast-medium bowler who debuted in 2003. Absolutely astonishing.

He's played as many test seasons as Shane Bond played tests.

    Bond was better though

Not sure how the umpire missed that edge

DRS fixes the error. India 6 down now

The way some of India's big name batsmen can go missing when under pressure (e.g. 36), the Gabba is looking even more remarkable. The bowlers couldn't bail them out in the first innings of the match this time around...

Reckon they should have enforced (/broken record). VVS happened once. And there would not have been enough time to lose.

So, SA is really really pissed at Aus Cricket (and possibly rightly so). Cancelling a tour based on your personal medical advice probably should be a default. That said, this quote from SA was classic SA politics - independent experts FROM SA πŸ˜ƒ

Moseki cited a clause from WTC competition terms that calls for independent experts to determine whether the health risks are severe enough to prevent Australia from touring, and asked for those experts to come from within South Africa.

@canefan I watched a bit of that auction last night and thought it was highly likely that Big Kyle would wake up with a smile on his face.

Seemed like fast bowlers and all rounders were at a premium and no-one needed batsmen.

I saw Morris, Maxwell and Jhye Richardson go for big bucks and Adam Milne do pretty well for someone who hasn't played international cricket for a good while.

Meanwhile Steve Smith and Dawad Malan (the world's No. 1 ranked T20 batsman) went for relative pittances. And other big names weren't wanted at all.

It's a pity that Steve Smith isn't coming to NZ on this current tour, because Kyle would have a ready-made sledge to welcome him with.

"What are doing batting at 4 for Australia? - You minimum-wage motherfucker!" πŸ™‚

most of the players from Aus who missed out i can understand except

I would have taken Ben McDermott, especially at the price he was available for.

Surprised Mitch Marsh isn't over there cashing in.

How the fuck did Ben Cutting get a gig?

also, i love how every time Michael Clarke opens his mouth, he proves just how fucking dumb he really is

Michael, the reason Aaron Finch didn't get a gig is because last year he sucked in the IPL, and then, to back it up, he couldn't buy a run in the BBL.

And i guess that answers the other one of your questions, i think you'll find it's probably your national selectors have got it wrong.

@mariner4life Yeah - it's not so much who gets picked up - it's some of the relative prices. I guess it's the auction process and people who've been carried over (and haven't).

This page shows everyone's price. You don't have to go far to see some big anomalies!

@mokey Yeah - but, apparently he is back bowling fast and got through a BBL season uninjured.

I see he played 12 matches, bowled 44 overs and had a very respectable economy rate (slightly better than multi-million dollar Jhye Richardson). Picked up hardly any wickets though, so had a terrible average.

    https://stats.espncricinfo.com/big-bash-league-2020-21-1226769/engine/records/bowling/best_career_economy_rate.html?id=13692;type=tournament

Shane Bond is bowling coach at both the Thunder and Mumbai, so I guess he knows what he's doing!

@chris-b i watched him. He was good. Bowled to plans with consistent accuracy. 140 odd throughout. Got no wickets but bowled really well at the start, you're always going to get smashed 1 game out of 5 at that pace, that's a given but he was very reliable early on. Took some tap at the end a couple of times, but who doesn't. Real dearth of wickets but that seemed a quirk and not a reflection of impotent bowling. A lot of the batsmen were playing him conservatively at the end of the season. Swung the ball for an over and a bit, but all bowlers could only get 1 or two overs to swing this year.

No surprise then that Bondy had the say again but Milne can definitely do a job. I'd have him in the black caps if available

    2019 Interview with Jeff Thomson.

Thommo tells a story about 70-year-old Don Bradman batting in a backyard in Adelaide in 1978 that Thommo witnessed.

Go to the 30.00 minute mark.
