season looks all over. City will win the league

The bottom 3 as it stands will be relegated.

the Arsene Wenger Fourth Place Trophy is the only thing left on the table.

    Disappointing collapse by Liverpool.

i should have added a (sorry dgomeat) to my post. That's a massive gap. It's a bit of a crazy season, so could move, but who knows, the team above you are just as likely to then knock over City. okay Man U.

Fulham taunting me into renewed hope with a comfortable win at Goodison. Everton were very poor allowing Fulham to score their first win since the Crimean War (or so it seems) and their first ever win at Everton.

Everton miss an opportunity to get into top 4.

Fulham seven from safety with 15 to play.

I suspect the target needs to be 38 points to stand a chance of staying up unless one of the teams above stall completely - and they all seem to be picking up the odd win at the moment. 20 points in 15 games is achievable though, just need to win 1 in 3 instead of 1 in 8.

@KiwiPie Over the past 20 years the average points for safety has been 36 and has only been 38 or higher on 4 occasions - Pity West Ham who went down in 2003 despite having 42 points.

I reckon six wins / 15 left will be enough. However having become difficult to beat we now have to start winning matches. The next two - Burnley and Sheffield are critical. I actually believe we are good enough for the EPL. Despite a horror start we aren't out of it completely and I don't think we are one of the three worst teams. We have made a habit of doing well against the top teams but failing against those around us. That has to stop

Cheer up, you could go to LFC in a fortnight and secure an away win.

I was making the judgment of 38 points based on the form of the 17 teams above the top 3. They are all currently tracking to get 40 or more - one of them might collapse but you can't really bank on it. Newcastle probably you're best bet to be sucked in.

Man City keeps on winning while Burnley and Fulham draw. Not the result @dogmeat would have been wanting.

Fulham miss another chance to gain ground getting what should have been a good point at Burnley but favours Burnley more than it favours Fulham. But better than losing.

City beat Everton 3-1 to go 10 points clear. Getting to the point that they will need a major crash to lose the title - and even then all the teams behind them look too inconsistent to win enough games to put pressure on.

Meanwhile in Europe, PSG slaughter Barca with Mbappe superb, Liverpool dominate Leipzig but need some German charity for both goals, Porto get the advantage over Juve and Dortmund won 3-2 at Sevilla - Haaland is a force of nature.

@Bovidae Yeah 6 points to make up 12 games to go. I still hope we can catch Newcastle and maybe Southampton with the form they are in but it's getting tougher with every lost opportunity. We really need to win the next two because the fixture list after that is ..., challenging.

Coming up via the play-off was always going to make it a tough task to avoid the drop. Less than three week 'off season' with no ability to make signings until we knew what comp we would be playing in. One point from our first six games as the team had to introduce themselves is what has put us in this situation plus points squandered because we couldn't convert a penalty!!

Fulham were outstanding against Everton - it will be a shame if they go down. But the standard in the EPL is generally pretty high and even mediocre teams like Palace and Newcastle have some outstanding individuals. The fact that promotion race in the championship is being dominated by the relegated teams and Brentford/Swansea shows that you can get relegated while being pretty good.

I thought luck was supposed to even out over a season?

Fulham must be due a fucking shit load then. I get we haven't got the most accurate attack but FFS. WE WUZ ROBBED (again).

No way are we one on the three worst sides in the EPL Lady Luck simply needs to realise that. Time running out though

Is that something like a 68 match unbeaten run at home in the EPL followed by 5 consecutive defeats - extraordinary

That handball was very harsh - it wouldn't have been given against a defender (example is Kante in the Chelsea game where his arm was up)

But then VAR is a guessing game most of the time.

Well Fulham have joined the pack - now they have to stay there and keep on picking up wins then survival is a real possibility given Brighton's form (cow's arse and banjo) and Newcastle's injuries (Wilson, St Maximin & Almiron all out).

    United giving themselves a sniff.

Title still has City written all over it, but if United can string together a few wins on the bounce & City drop some more points ... it's not long before they are in reach, and jitters could hit the City squad.

    Unlikely, but it's not over.

@antipodean Not the upset it would have been last year. These days it seems everyone wins at Anfield. Except Liverpool.
