@taniwharugby I was just thinking the same. If you’ve been away to Europe for a few months then been locked in MIQ for a couple of weeks what’s on the list of things you must do as soon as you get home? Visit the Gumdiggers Museum of course.
More seriously, if you’d just been away to a part of the world with a lot of cases - by choice - wouldn’t you think it prudent and civic-minded to take it a bit cautiously when you get back just in case you inadvertently fuck over tens of thousands of people’s lives? I know self isolating isn’t compulsory when you’ve finished MIQ but surely you owe it to everyone else to be just a bit less of a social butterfly, just for a couple of weeks...

30 places in a week is a lot of places. I don't reckon I visit that many places in a week....

I dunno, you've just done hotel Q, you have no symptoms, you've been tested 2-3 times. Reckon I'd live pretty carefree after that. I cant fault her for that.
She was very dutiful in her use of the app. No complaints from me. The fact is this shit is going to sneak it's way in one way or another

Yea she can't really be blamed, just seems odd that all.
I guess the other thing to consider, if it was one of the new more contagious strains, it would likely have presented already?

I have no idea about speed of presentation. But a doctor mate of mine says the 14 day thing is pretty arbitrary, based on science. However it is an approximate period in which the disease should manifest, but not a sure thing
-
Apparently 2 close contacts (partner and hairdresser have both tested negative) so that is a bit of light at the end of this new tunnel.
I know there is so much about this virus they don't know, but is someone able to have and not be contagious? I mean if anyone was gonna pick it up, it'd be her partner who was likely with her the whole time, in the car for hours and hours.

Yes. Risk mitigation. Likely to catch everything but not 100% guaranteed.

It is most likely she caught it at The Pullman in the last few days of her stay there; either just before her last (negative) test meaning she didn't have a viable amount of virus to be detected or just after. This would fit in with the subsequent timeframe for presentation and is both more likely and less alarming than it taking so long to manifest if she caught it before entering MIQ.
We are very fortunate she has been using the app.
As I have mentioned my brother is currently in MIQ. What he has told me is quite reassuring:
*Passengers were met at the end of the airbridge by av-sec staff in full bio hazard get up. Masks visors boots gloves and full suit. They were escorted straight to Customs without stopping even for toilets and were placed in a queue 2 metres apart.
-
Customs staff were similarly dressed as was the bus driver who took them to MIQ. The entire flight was kept together.
-
At the hotel they were told in detail about what to expect for the next 14 days and then escorted to their room. He has no direct interaction with staff since.
-
On Day 1 he was given a COVID Test which he passed. As a result he has been given a blue bracelet which allows him access to a shared courtyard at any time between 08:00 & 19:00. This is only for people with blue bracelets and there is a set route he has to use from which he cannot depart.
-
Today he is going to be allowed to exercise for half an hour outside for the first time. He will be alone and accompanied by an armed soldier at all times. If he were stupid enough to attempt to get away he's tazered.

Welcome to Pullman white collar prison?!

@dogmeat so the yard is only for people on that flight? Others who have tested negative but were on different flights, have different bands and a different yard? Guess that's better, but still hardly ideal - you'd hope that being on the same plane wouldn't 100% mean you've been infected.
Seems like madness to me, especially when you're already allowing an exercise window. Australia allows neither!
-
@voodoo yeah there shouldnt be any mingling of passengers, whether from same flight or not, you need to minimise any interactions or potential ones with people not in your bubble (immediate Iso bubble as opposed to a flight bubble as that just extends possible breaches)

Another reader in Northland has been waiting in line since 8.45am but is prepared to wait.
"We’re at Ruakaka, been queuing since 8:45 and don’t care how long it’s taking. Things seem pretty relaxed and we’re moving steadily."
Another reader who arrived at a testing centre in Whangārei has been in the queue since 8.45am.
"Arrived at 8.45 and am nowhere near the front, and not moving at all. Cooking in the car," they told Stuff.
A Stuff reader has been waiting in line at the Pohe Island testing centre for hours.
They arrived at around 8.45am and still had not reached the front of the queue by 10.17am.
"[The] queue doesn't seem to be moving," they said.
The person is classified as an essential worker and can't return to work until they show a negative test result.
"Situation is pretty hopeless, sitting in a hot car in the middle of summer."

@taniwharugby I suspect a lot of people are going for a test without having been anywhere near a place where this woman has been and without having any symptoms. Understandably, people are getting nervous or scared, and don't act rationally.
