A lot of their carers are BAME and I wonder if they have been influenced by the anti-vaxxers who have targeted minority groups.
It would be good to see the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lenny Henry, Stormzy and all those celebrity Black Lives Matter champions stepping up and encouraging the use of vaccine. Not holding my breath, though.
Why on earth would they do that when they get far more attention by shouting racism!!
Heard this from Mrs M's daughter and thought of you and @R-L

Zoom lessons for her kids start. All good.
-
Email from school: "Please make sure there is no-one else in the room when the Zoom lesson is going on - including parents. This is a child safeguarding and privacy issue."
-
Snippets from Zoom lessons start appearing on TikTok and other social media
-
Email from school: "Please make sure you or another adult, are in the room when Zoom lessons are in progress to prevent children recording lessons and posting them on social media. This is a child safeguarding and privacy issue.".....

@Victor-Meldrew See what I wrote about Gavin Williamson on the politics thread.
Saying adults not allowed in the room for safeguarding is the sort of retardedness that he would come up with.
-
@Victor-Meldrew madness! Nothing like that has been mentioned at all, we've always been told to sit with but off screen. Ours are done on teams and work really well for 4/5 year olds, they are doing everything the class is doing in real time it's quite apparent sometimes kids have been left to their own devices though playing with toys etc
I sit next to my little one on my work laptop, dining room has become our learning space as our little office room would be too small. It's so comical though any time the teacher says "does anyone have a question" at the end of her presentation ALL hands go up and she picks a kid and its 100% never a question, always "my tooth fell out last night" "my dog got sick" lolSo apparently we will get 2 weeks notice for schools going back!? When though!? My work are struggling with me not on site more in the day, I've been going in some evenings and doing a full day Mondays on site but I'm not sure I'll get the work from home flexibility past half term. My girl might have to go in as a key worker child and I really didn't want her mingling as there are tons of key worker kids in. Positive is she's getting more one on one learning from me than she would in school and still gets to see friends online.
Hopefully if I do have to send her back the cases will be lower. Ideal world they all go back after half term because the world has healed and we are all signing and dancing again. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😭🙄 -

@Victor-Meldrew you mean this veritable who's who of old white folk doesn't cut it?
I didn't realise Stormzy and Lenny got in on the action too.
Oh yeah. Lenny Henry thinks holding a watermelon is "casual racism".
It would be good to get his views on all those old sketches of his back when he was moderately popular.
Katanga! My friends. Katanga!
And a bloody good actor as well. Saw a video of him playing McBeth and he was outstanding. (The wicked side of me is thinking he's a racist as he culturally-appropriated Shakespeare...)
EDIT: He did a skit on the experiences of a Black brit in the US. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.
By all accounts LH was superb in Fences, an August Wilson play, in 2013.
We were going to see it, but two and a half hours of that didn't seem to attract my wife!

I looked for it on Youtube but didn't have any luck. It was him visiting the US and people thinking he was African American and getting thrown by his British accent. Great impersonations, ridiculous situations and bit of a satire on US society. Seemed to go all PC and unfunny a few years later.

There's a real opportunity to get involved and say "Black Lives Matter". Hopefully they will and do what people like Trevor Phillips and Frank Bruno have done.
And kudos to the Muslim Council of Britain for taking the lead and dispelling the myths about the vaccine at Friday prayers.
Priti Patel?

Visit Wales saying attractions may possibly open 2nd week in April. After Easter weekend.

Really can’t see it unfortunately.
None of that please....

I'm hearing Easter is what our local schools are planning for...
It's a very long time! 🥺

I feel like such a mug, I was so confident that my daughter would get through her first year of school without having to homeschool. What the hell was wrong with me!?
Good luck uk parents, good luck.

Must be getting old. What is this thing called "kids and schooling" that's causing people so much grief?

That's the most offensive thing anyone on the Fern has ever said to me...
Re teachers not wanting to have schools fully open again, that's such a shame and I suspect the majority, maybe more secondary teachers. To be fair to my kids school though, they have always been great, the teachers felt safe and they wanted to carry on before the lockdown when union was saying close and they want kids back as soon possible. Also, our school has NEVER had a positive covid case so the parents and teachers have really played their part.

On a serious note, I can really sympathise with you and other parents. Mrs M's daughter & SiL are really being hammered. She's a Nurse doing shift work and he's a freelancer working from home and it's screwing them financially
They're more than happy with the teachers and their school and even have some sympathy with Williamson, but would happily throttle the Local Education Authority and the Teaching Unions. . Terms akin to pistonwristedgibbons and fluffybunnies are routinely used...
-
@Victor-Meldrew I actaully understand the teachers unions point of view. And poor leadership from Williamson is what has caused these huge waves of negativity towards them. Some basic response he may have thought of.
Q: We aren't going to school as it's clearly not safe for us
A: Science disagrees with you and given you are teachers, we would expect you to respect science.Q: I'm not going back in until I've had the vaccine
A: Ok. We'll put you on the statutory sick pay until your vaccine times comes up and you can go in after then. In the meantime, we'll send a letter to each of your student parents explain why you are outQ: What if cases go nuts?
A: Then we'll close the schools and we'l switch to online learning as we have done in the past and currently are.Q: Zoom from home? Thats my private space!! No way!
A: You are welcome to go into school and zoom from there.Q: But key worker children are in there, so that's not safe
A: Then please zoom from home.Q: But thats my personal space.
A: Nobody is asking you to zoom with kids whilst you take a shit. Create small space you are prepared to share. You are aware we are in a pandemic right & a lot of poeple are going through absolute hell. We are asking you to put a white sheet / board up behind you.Q: This has been handled so poorly. I refuse to teach.
A: I refuse to pay you.Q: Right, fuck you I'm off to my union.
A: Are you aware this is a conservative government?
