Jorja Miller was the Girl's MVP but couldn't win it by herself for CGHS, as she did last year. Howick College coached by Waisake Sotutu beat Manukura 12-5 in the final.
Hamilton BHS made it 6 in a row in a tough final over Kelston (14-10). Kelston are big and physical. Unfortunately a serious injury to a Kelston player just after HT meant a long delay.
I thought Payton Spencer might have been in the HBHS team but I see on the news he is playing in the Gillette Cup 1st XI tournament in Chch.
-
@Bovidae Great to see Cooper Flanders named in that team! Hastings Boys' didn't go too well this year, but he was outstanding. Didn't expect them to pick him because of that, but fortunately, his individual performance was noticed.

No news on the other squads for World Series yet. Obviously a bit of juggling going on to fit players into 'ethnic' based squads but also provide some competitiveness in the tournament so it isn't a walkover for the Condor selections.
I thought they would simply put the champion Condor schools in and then make up the other teams.Edit (as I was typing). the squads are starting to come through

@Bovidae It can also be different if they add players to the Condor NZ Schools team if those players didn't play Condor7s because their school didn't field a team or because they're no longer at school but still qualify and are considered better than a player named in the tournament team. That's what they did last year anyway (one of the Hawke's Bay Tui players, who had already finished school, was selected in the Condor's girls team).
They can do the same when naming the other teams, such as NZ Maori.
Edited to add that it's possible that some players from the Condor 7s tournament team have opted to play for another team (on of their Pasific heritage, for example).
-
@Stargazer I'm sure that is the situation, although some of the new players in the Condor team did play in the tournament but weren't selected in the tournament team.
The reason I mentioned Kemara was because he left the field in the final due to a leg injury. Doyle looks to be a like-for-like replacement.

It probably won't surprise anyone that Hamilton Boys also won the Condor 7s U15 Boys tournament. They beat De La Salle College 19 - 7 in the Final. Kelston Boys' finished 3rd, beating Sacred Heart in the Consolation Cup final 40 - 5.
St Mary's College from Wellington won the girls' U15 tournament, beating One Tree Hill College 15 - 12 in the Cup Final.
Auckland Girls' Grammar finished third after beating Sacred Heart Girls 41 - 0 in the Plate Final. -

And exactly the same score when they played in the pool game.
@Crucial There are 4 players in that Samoan team that were involved in the NZ Schools/Barbarians game.
-
@Crucial Yeah, you'd think that by now they would have a clear idea of who is available. Who manages the World School 7s? I've the impression it's not NZR, but the people (mostly volunteers) behind the Condor 7s. Not sure about that though.
-
@Bovidae A new girls' team. Maybe instead of NZ Dutch, who used to participate in previous years. I assume, because several NZ Dutch players have also Samoan or Maori heritage, some of them may be in those squads, and Jorja Miller is in the NZ Condor team, leaving them with not enough players of Dutch heritage? I remember seeing a post on FB earlier this year, in which they were looking for players.
