Unfathomable that they are not playing Conway in this test. He is 29, we aren’t talking about a young rookie here that needs to be eased into the test arena.

Young's first class record has been very good over the last few years so you can understand why Stead has been loyal and chosen him ahead of Conway. Nicholls might be the player who Conway eventually replaces (leftie for leftie).

Definitely possible. Nicholls has been shite for quite awhile now

He'll get a hundy now that he's just been dropped, and buy his place in the team for the next 2 years.

What odds would this side be paying to win a test series in Australia right now? $5?

    And in India? $5?

And Australia to win a test series in NZ right now? Even money favourites? Max $2 underdog? India in NZ maybe $3?

    Let's be real here.

Spot on. A year ago I saw us looking worse than the windies so let's not get too carried away at how good we are

Did the kiwis take a knee with the West Indians? That will keep @Rapido happy....

Well something has to be done about our appalling police brutality in NZ!

I don't think anyone is getting carried away, it was just mentioned that if we win this game we go to number 1 in the ICC test rankings.

Pretty big deal if you ask me, I don't recall us ever being there before.

    Tough crowd.

sort of reminds me of when, due to a quirk with the scheduling, South Africa moved to #1 in the test rankings ahead of Steve Waugh's all conquering Australian team

Steve was asked about it, and he pretty much bluntly said "i think we all know who the best team in the world is" and moved on. Steve didn't give anyone anything.

Sure, but the thread sounded like we were poms talking up before the first test too. Short memories 😉

Sorry mate. I thought it was you that said you would watch the cricket so long as they didn't take a knee. Must have been someone else.

    Yes.

From the Stuff article by Mark Geenty:

    Eden Park - 81
    Lancaster Park - 61
    Seddon Park - 53 (only from 1991)

@Godder Do we start the countdown to Test Century 100 at the Basin now that Henry Nicholls have moved into the 90s?

And he has since moved onto 95* after clipping one off his pads to the square leg boundary for 4.

Astles 222 in a losing effort will never be beat. I lay on the couch still drunk from the night before and watched the entire innings. Just brilliant stuff.

It's certainly a bit more clever and witty than "Hadlees a piston wristed gibbon"

@NTA shit it must be embarrassing to be Australian sometimes.

It's alright, actually. Particularly when it comes to cricket.

Being a kiwi mistaken for an Aussie though? Ooft...

Not as bad. I'd imagine, as being Scottish, mistaken for a Kiwi!? (Not sure what the sideways glance at MN5 emoticon looks like but no doubt it has Chris Gayle's eyes)..

Nicholls now on 99* and on strike so almost there. And whilst I type that he scores two runs to bring up his century. His average now stands at just over 41 in his 35 tests.

I have just got home from work.

Is it just my imagination, or is the pitch almost indistinguishable from the rest of the field. I shedder to think what the pitch looked like at 10:30 this morning.

287/6 seems a reasonable return after being put in.
