Since when has it been illegal to tackle around the legs?

And with that war the Melbourne Storm officially kick start the Warriors 2016 season. It's a loss but the Warriors at least went up the middle of the park this time.

Some thoughts:

- Smash it up, dummy half run, smash it up, dummy half run.... the Warriors actually did this for parts of the game and guess what? The Storm defence went backwards. Maybe they should try the simple stuff a bit more.

- Just like the girls/quasi-girls will tell you on K Rd, it is tough being a hooker. First Luke is goooonnnee before the game begins, Nathan Roache is then injured early in the game, Jazz Tevaga gets injured several times in the game, Jeff Robson gets injured when he moved to hooker late in the game, and Bodene Thompson also gets injured after playing a few sets as hooker.

- Big ups to Jazz Tevaga. A backrower/hooker, he's the new, browner Lewis Brown. Showed aggression on attack and defence, and like Lewis, he just kept going.

- If Luke, Roache and Tevaga are all injured next week, play Robson at hooker, and SJ and Lolohea in the halves. Lolohea needs more ball.

- The frontrowers of Matulino, Lillyman, Vete, Gubb and Gavet played well too. Gavet's tackle on Munster was clean and was a bullshit call.

- So was the call by the refs before the winning drop goal - if it goes forward off a dropped ball it's a knock on. Nuff said.

- But the Storm's Kiwis won Melbourne that game imo with simple, straight forward running. Henry Perenara also helped.

- I don't know what happened to Kata but he seems to be playing ok, even better when on the wing.

- Ashyford and Wright should be the last options for call ups.

- Bring back Hurrell.

On the ball that looked like a knock on , Bromwich offloaded it , it hit a warriors leg that was tackling him and rolled forward , but it went backwards initially out of his hands
-

Any word on Burgess's injury ? say what you want about his ill fated Union career, the guy is a hell of a league player ( and would have been at Union given a proper chance )

Did he give himself that chance? -

Excellent point, probably should have done a Brad Thorn and said no. At any rate here's hoping he's ok.
-

jesus, the way this is being reported you would think he was on deaths door. Andy Raymond looked like he was about to burst in to tears yesterday, despite saying positive things.

If this was some 2nd year player from Penrith no one would give a fuck.
-

Don't bother searching for video of the incident, the tackle wasn't dangerous, Burgess just runs into a cluster of bodies with his head down and cricked his neck.

Certainly not "sickening".
-

BREAKING NEWS: injured footballer tweets from hospital bed....

... that he's fine.

I for one will not even be a little surprised if he fronts on Friday, and it's hailed as a "miraculous recovery from a potentially paralysing tackle"
-

Realistically, how many more losses before McFadden walks the plank?

I don't believe for a second the bullshit coming out of Warriors HQ last week that he is safe for the season.

I believe them when they say he's safe for the year. I don't think the Warriors want to add to their bad reputation of firing coaches mid-season. They probably know that it'll make it harder to attract future coaches(if the bad play doesn't do it already) if they keep doing it.

I don't see the point of firing a coach mid-season anyway, because as we've seen the past, the interim coach comes in and does the same crap job as the fired coach, so it's better to just save it for the end of the season.
-

Their first half against the Tigers is really the only bad half they've had so far. They've played 2 of the teams picked to finish top 4, and haven't disgraced themselves either game.

They're just not very good, and what ever plan they have isn't making best use of resources.

But their main issues, as ever (through a number of coaches) is conditioning, and smarts. No one compounds errors like the Warriors. If they drop a ball, it's odds-on they'll then give away a penalty, and then probably a try.
-

I always feel that whenever we make an error or a penalty is awarded against us, the other team will definitely score. It's like its ingrained in my psyche for the past 21 years....

What was disappointing yesterday is that we didn't capitalise often enough when we forced a Storm error or won a penalty.
-

I think there was about 7 minutes to go , scores were level , Warriors were inside the 22 late in the count , i thought to myself , Storm would be setting up for the drop goal here no doubt , what will the Warriors do ? They didnt .

I dont think they got that field position again for the rest of the game ,

I know there is hindsight with that , but its just the little things they dont quite do to seal a game
-

Jonathan Wright should have scored twice. He isn't that bad of a centre but looks like a giraffe in mid-gallop when out on the wing. Kata should be on the wing if he is to remain in the side - also means he doesn't have to pass which is good because he doesn't.
