For anyone interested in knowing what the rugby programme for the next few months is in South Africa:
Following the Vodacom Super Fan Saturday matches in Pretoria (26 September) and the Castle Lager Springbok Showdown in Cape Town (3 October), the seven provincial teams will head into a double round of local action over 16 weekends with two trophies up for grabs – Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked and the Currie Cup.
The first round of matches – from 10 October to 21 November – will be for Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked honours, with the winner coming from whichever of the Vodacom Bulls, Cell C Sharks, Emirates Lions, DHL Stormers, Toyota Cheetahs, Tafel Lager Griquas or Phakisa Pumas has the most log points.
All log points will then be carried forward into the second round – the Currie Cup from 28 November to 9 January 2021 – which will culminate in semi-finals (16 January) and a final on 23 January next year.
By the way, in case you missed it, the Southern Kings's company has gone into voluntary liquidation. -
@Stargazer said in SA S15 Conference 2020:
Results:
Bulls 49 - 28 Sharks
Lions 21 - 34 StormersI haven't been able to find any highlights clips, yet.
Did you see the games @Stargazer ?
I watched the first half of the Bulls game and it was over by then.
Watched a bit more of the other one and was pretty impressed with that Stormers back line.
My take away from round 1, there are a some big boys running (jogging) around these SA front rows. Plenty of kegs in there...

@ACT-Crusader No, I meant to watch the second game, but totally forgot about daylightsaving. So I'm hoping to find a replay of the games.

Impressive by Cheetahs beating the Pumas so convincingly...
-
@taniwharugby it's gotta be a C or D team, their best players are either in Oz or Europe...
-
@Machpants from looking on social media, it isn't anything to do with the Pumas from Argentina, think the intern put the wrong team logo.
-
@taniwharugby I know I was carrying on your joke

From the Lions FB page (21 October):
Four positive cases of Covid-19 have been detected among the Emirates Lions squad this week. The team gets tested every week as required by protocol.
These players, all of whom are A-symptomatic, have been removed from the squad.
All protocols have been kept and the relevant parties have been informed.
We are ready and preparing for the Toyota Cheetahs at Emirates Airline Park this weekend. The team will be retested as per Covid protocols.
So these "Covid protocols" allow a team to continue playing? The Lions have named their squad for this weekend's game ...

The Bulls Stormers game was called off at 63 minutes due to an approaching lightning storm. Having witnessed scary Lightning storms in Jo'burg in 1999 (one strike hit our Hotel) I can understand the precaution.

2021 version of Super Rugby Unlocked:
The eight teams – the EP Elephants join the seven sides that competed in Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked and the Carling Currie Cup from October last year – have been split into two groups and will play cross-pool matches between 27 February and 27 March, ensuring four encounters for every side.
“It’s imperative that we get the new season underway as soon as possible as we have a big year ahead, with preparing our players for the British & Irish Lions a top priority, but also providing opportunities for all teams to get match fit with an eye on entry into European competitions, and our planned local season,” said Rassie Erasmus, Director of Rugby.
So has South Africa Rugby's wish that four SA teams enter PRO14 already been granted by the PRO14 organisers? I can't remember,
