If a score flattered a losing team , you have just seen it ..Auckland did their best to keep the home side in the game ..should never have been that close ..too much kicking when keeping the ball in hand should have been the order of the day..

Only caught the second half but effort looked much improved especially with Mitch back. Don’t know we didn’t go for the line out over a scrum for a couple of those late penalties, didn’t once look like running through them. Still much improved.

    Well done Auckland

WRK, Rayasi and Lam were Auckland's best 3 I thought.

Did I miss something in the first half, how the hell did Emoni get 2 Monkley medal points? Couldn’t catch, tackling looked optional, jeez not even close to my best BoP player let alone 2 points.

@bayimports Thought Karpik was good for your mob.

he always seems good against Auckland. Ex Aucklander, so a bit of a chip?

@nzzp Especially as he got let go after being a standout for us in 2015. Sadly we just had too many coming through at the time that we couldn't keep him.

Mitch was superb. In a game laden with penalties, he still had a positive effect for the Bay.

Unfortunate ending. Hate seeing a halfback fluff around when the ball is there to be played.

Bay was good at disrupting the Orc attack.

Both sides struggled with their set piece.

wound up fielding a whole lot of aimless crossfield kicks too, but did it with aplomb. Played well.

The thing is that Karpik is a star at this level but has little impact in SR.

Just did a quick skim through the game again this morning.

I agree with @KiwiMurph that WRK, Lam and Rayasi were our best. A special mention to TJ for his defense and passing game which put several guys into space. Trainor wasn't too bad either.

Lineout was very good when Apisai was on, but it went pear shaped once Sosene-Feagai came on.

Backrow isn't bad, but the balance isn't great. It's probably the best we can do at the moment though. It might be worth trying Sione Tuipulotu alongside Choat and WRK at some point.

@Dice Yeah our loose trio is very workman like which is not usually what we are traditionally like. It's similar to what we'd expect from Canterbury sides and yes, I feel Tuipulotu might be worth a punt there at some stage. Jarred Adams is our only real ball carrier in the forwards who looks likely to bend the line.

@African-Monkey Whetton use to be a guy we could also rely upon for good go forward, but he seems to have lost a bit of explosiveness. He's still good value, but not the athlete he once was.

Adams is someone I hope the Blues snap up. So much upside.

@Dice I agree, and he's a good scrummager too. He'd be good value off the bench.

@African-Monkey the Canes might already have their sights on Adams after he came in as an injury replacement during SRA.

Can he play both sides as he would be a handy replacement for the departing Ben May?

just as well this was a Mitre10 cup game then.. let the man have his 5 minutes 🙂 , although a more cohesive performance as a team, his impact at this level is important
