Anybody else still miss ReUnion?

@nzzp James Parsons is someone I reckon should be looking at that side of things once he finally hangs up his boots, never rated him as a player, but hearing him speak seems to be pretty onto it with his analysis, not to mentioned seems a top bloke too!
absolutely agree. Great human being, tries his guts out, a leader, but just a bit small for top level rugby it appears.
-
@taniwharugby I like what James Parsons has to say, too. Corey Flynn is similar; I like his radio commentary.
I find Sir JK as annoying as hell. Always yelling over the others; spewing a lot of nonsense. And as some others said, too much fanboying on the Breakdown (not only SJK) and too little analysis.
I like their live interviews more, but like @akan004 said, they assumed too much that what McLennon said was 100% true and that's typical for the programme. Still, it's for the interviews that I still watch the Breakdown.
1014 Rugby came closest to what I want to see. If they would combine that with a news section, it would be a great programme.
Instead of Re:union, I just watch the match highlights.

There was a YouTube show called ruggamatrix or something on YouTube a couple of years back that I thought was quite good, just a couple of Aussies but they put their bias aside. I think they had to stop due to lack of funding.
That was hosted by Djuro Sen and Ben Kimber and was top notch. Sen is no longer there but Kimber has started a new podcast with Morgan Turinui called The Rugby Ruckus. They are both generally pretty fair although in recent times Kimber has been fairly one sided with his reporting of the TT/RC negotiations.

Meg should be used more on a show like Breakdown to analyse games. While he knows SFA about the laws of the game I enjoy his insight about how the backs are aligned and what was done to manipulate the defence. Mexted was the same on Re:Union in an analysis role, but was poor as a commentator.
-
As I'm in Oz I don't watch the Breakdown, but I used to really like Reunion, TJ was good on that show in an opposite way to how shit he is when commentating the Invitational Chequebook XV, Crusaders, Canterbury and but for different reasons the Blues/Auckland.
Reunion in its heyday struck the right balance of analysis/highlights of games and fluff pieces. The few episodes of the Breakdown I've seen seem quite slight in comparison on the analysis.
-
Love The Breakdown, I think it is excellent.

Agree with all of this except I can't comment on The Breakdown. Have never seen it.
With regard to SJK. He was never that on to it as a coach or analyst. And being "controversial" doesn't necessarily indicate a greater intellect. Something a few talk show hosts seemed to forget.

@booboo the full episodes are on the ABs YouTube channel.
That probably sums it up, really.
It's fluff enough to be on the NZRU's own youtube channel.

I agree. Mex offered very good insight and analysis when he was away from the emotion/activity of a live game.
On 1014, I thought they were too dry. You have to bring some entertainment value as well as the analysis and good oil.

but he left us with gold.
'Murray, can you hear me?'
'No'

Murray used to pop into a place I worked all the time. He’s a good joker and takes the commentary piss takes extremely well.

Mex:
"Mauger loves to come inside Merhtens" - one the most memorable bits of commentary.Along with "the batsman is Holding the bowler's Willy" of course.
I am such a child.
Some of the others were bangers as well....
Pumping Martin Leslie especially....
His psychic energy talk probably had Nisbo scratching his head too.

I love The Breakdown. So much better than any equivalent show in the UK. All the episodes are available on the ABs Youtube Channel.
Jeff Wilson and Berndice Kirby-Oliver are excellent presenters, who balance having fun with asking probing questions of guests. All of their panel are good value, especially Glen Jackson and Sir John Kirwan.

All our shows are fucking terrible. I'm not a league fan but I'd happily sit down and watch 360, The Matty Johns Podcast or Sunday Night with Matty Johns for the entertainment value. I don't know how we manage to assemble casts of such average presenters. What's the show with the slightly chubby chick and all the recent ex players sitting around in their ripped jeans and hoodies talking absolute garbage??
