I changed my Power/telco/broadband about a year back but still pay through Vodafone for my sky stuff (decoder and package) same price as with Sky

@taniwharugby I do too, but just got an email from Vodafone advising me of the change. If Vodafone TV still has all the sky channels I will probably change

Voda TV is a combo smart TV (all the main apps) and Sky feed all through internet.
If you have a good fibre connection and unlimited data it is an easy way of having sat tv and internet tv all in one place. It records to the cloud (500 hours) and can rewind/pause etc like a sky+ box with no contract or monthly fee unless you turn the sky bits on (can turn on and off)
Pretty good product with nice UI IMO.

we dont have fibre where we are, and cant see it getting to us in the foreseeable future (nearest line is probably 10km away) we do get decent ADSL speeds (better than when we were in town) though with 42mbps down and 1.7 up...although TR Jnr moans continuously about lagging on his PS4...

You probably need to have your bills sent by sky and keep the same decoder then

All kids whine about 'lag' and'glitches' when they're losing!
The only thing about all those online offerings is you get to see it 10 20 secs after every one else on the fern, and get every thing spoilt

We had to make the same shift when our old Telstra box died and Vodafone could only give us a new Vodafone TV box.
As a practical matter, not a lot of difference in terms of just watching TV and no limits on Sky channels (no +1 channels though), and the apps are useful (Netflix, TVNZ on demand etc), but the ability to record shows for later is more limited as Vodafone's rights in this area are not quite the same as Sky TV.
The Vodafone TV app can be installed on 3 devices eg tablets and phones, and is a mildly useful extra. That said, the rights for a number of shows don't allow mobile viewing, so it's a bit more limited than watching on TV. The app also won't cast (eg chromecast or screen share), but something like Samsung DeX works (have Samsung devices so have tested a few options...).

righto, SkySportNow.
Pros:
- on demand streaming - anywhere with internet and you get sports. It's awesome
- quality is about 1080P I think- is really good with fibre
- 'on demand' means you can watch any programme from the last 24 hours
- can skip backwards or forwards - but not fast forward/rewind
- casts a high quality (but at the expense of skpping forward/backwards)
- Cost: $25/month if you pre-buy a year
- support NZ Rugby and Sky (who, despite their muppetry sometimes are a force for good in sport watching)
Cons:
- You can only watch 'on demand' after the programme is finished (in theory). In practice, can watch up the last 2 hours of live broadcasts (so if you open it, make sure you don't see or hear the scorea nd click backwards it's all good.... up to 2 hours. This has caught me on American Football games which last 3-4 hours sometimes.
- only 24 hours to watch things before they disappear
Overall, pretty happy with it to be fair. We have fibre and unlimited data, as it will chew data at higher quality. Option to scale back if you're out which is nice. No regrets so far!
