This is from the article about Mackintosh:

Mackintosh was unwanted at Super Rugby level but was dealt a further hammer blow when he was advised by his home province Southland that there would not be a spot available for him in the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup squad.

The loosehead prop says he was initially offered a contract at 50 percent of what he was earning the previous year, which he accepted.

Before it was finalised the Stags decision-makers revised their offer which Mackintosh says was then set at minimum contract value.

Mackintosh says he accepted that offer before being told by then Stags coach Hoani Macdonald told Mackintosh he wouldn’t be selected in the 2016 Stags squad.

Is there a story behind this? Was his form dropping that far or did he have a falling out with the coach?

    dont know about the latter

he never really reached the levels someone of his size and experience would have been expected too, given the financial troubles southland have been through it might just have been a value proposition and having an AB cap probably put a premium on him southland rarely saw

The odt did the positions, they weren't named as that position, Boyle and Koroi may end up playing some fullback and Collins into centre. Imaginr if our injuries weren't inured, we would be a real force to be reckoned with

Don't get too carried away. The 1st XV is handy and would be handier if all your Bedeans and St Andrews guys were available, sure, but "a real force to be reckoned with" is a stretch when compared to the Auckland, Wellington, Ta$man and Canterbury squads.

I count approx 12 guys with SR experience there which is handy. And several other names who have multiple years of NPC experience.

@Kiwiwomble yeah it's a little disappointing though. Josh in the form of his life. Liam is arguably better than Aumua, it's just because of Aumua's attack. Dickson would've been up there if he wasn't injured

    so, let talk about Sio

if he's going to keep playing...and thats still up in the air as its two reds and a yellow this year i believe..i think he needs to get moved out to the wing

he doens't create enough in midfield, his only real move it a fend, so stick him out where a solid fend might be all you need to get some space

would also take away the a bit of temptation to cut off a move with one big hit

assuming he'll rightly get a ban this week, but even with Saturdays squads, sio out to 14, koroi to 15 and collins to the midfield would have improved things in my mind

@Kiwiwomble he worries too much about big hits instead of making a proper tackle, which is why he always aims up high and gets the head. The shield vs waikato where the player slipped, he still would've hit the player in the chest which is probably going to be too high soon
