Hastings Boys 2nd XV just suffered a big 7 - 48 loss to Hamilton Boys 2nds. I hope that the 1st XV doesn't share their fate, but the way this season is going, I'm not optimistic.

Eek, although a down year for Hastings (which this clearly is) is always going to result in big losses to the Super 8 powerhouse of Hamilton Boys.

23': first try to Hamilton Boys, scored in the corner.

    That's the half time score.

Hastings Boys dominating territory and possession in the later part of the first half and hot on attack, but making mistakes at the wrong moment and Hamilton's defence too good.

Try to Andrew Hayward in the corner. The try goes unconverted.

48': errr, try to Hamilton Boys. One of the backs found a gaping hole in the Hastings defence after a line-out.

    5 - 17 HamBHS

Coach killer: an awesome break from Donovan Godinet brings Hastings close to the Hamilton try line, and then the halfback tries to be too flashy with a behind the back pass ... straight to a Hamilton player.

Geez, and now a box-kick from the Hastings halfback gets charged down and Hamilton score from it.

    5 - 27 HamBHS

And befor I can click the submit button, another Hastings mistake leads to another Hamilton try.

    5 - 34 Ham BHS

The Hamilton BHS 2nds are very strong this year. Their closest winning margin has been 36 pts!

The Hamilton-Napier games will be interesting for both the 1st and 2nd XVs, assuming they are played.

@Bovidae If the round robin games aren't played, there's still a good chance they meet in the final. Napier is strong this year, but I expect Hamilton to take it out again with home advantage.

Edit: By the way, Napier 2nds are also very good this year. Still unbeaten, like Hamilton 2nds. But probably the same end result to be expected in that comp.

Yeah. Hamilton has Gisborne at home next Sat so should finish 1st on the table and have home advantage. The SFs are scheduled for the following week so either they move the playoffs back a week or don't play the catch-up games if they have no bearing on final places.

Lock Will Carter with an early try for Napier! Converted by Afa Moleli.

    Napier take the lead: 0 - 7.
