You are free to pick from pre-NPC if you want.
It is up to each team 'owner' to decide and to debate the merits of an old era player over another.eg I have gone for an early NPC era front row as despite being probably smaller than todays pros they had the skills and hardness to compete

@Nepia But ... how would you know whether players from those early days were better than players of, say, the 90s? I doubt there's footage from those early games, so it's on reputation only? Not sure what the earliest videos are that I've seen ...
Edit: unless you're over 100 years old, of course.

Yeah, reputation and reading. Although I've seen footage of the 60s team.
