The matches tend to be more of a grind than the NZ comp. So if you aren’t supporting a team I can see why some neutrals find them dull.

Maybe. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I reckon if two NZ teams produced a game like Saturday it would be lauded as 'test match intensity' by some Aussie pundits who flog themselves at anything that comes out of your place.
