Magpies have signed Kurt Baker (All Blacks Sevens/Manawatu/Taranaki/NZ Maori/Highlanders). He is playing for Tech OB tomorrow against Central.
Why? He's a great attacking player but why would he come to us and not the poo where he belongs? I expect our penalty/card account to increase this year.

@Nepia I think there's something going on in Manawatu that we don't know about. If it's true that Otere Black, and Rob Thompson have both gone to Bay of Plenty, Aaron Cruden not playing for them, and Laumape as well, and possibly Milner-Skudder then suddenly there Million dollar backline becomes $2. Kurt Baker's still a very good player who will add experience, but yes his discipline needs to be right.

Not really happy with this signing, but I agree with @Billsy111. When I read about the possible move of Black and Thompson, I was wondering what was going on with Manawatu. My wife even wondered whether they were going to pull out of the comp for financial reasons, but then there was the news of the signing of Alaalatoa and others, so that's not likely to happen. Really strange situation. I guess they could have signed a worse player than Baker; I wonder whether he comes in to replace McNicol? Maybe his ankle injury is so bad that he won't be available again?

@Number-10 @Magpie_in_aus Bloody hell, just when things were going along so swimmingly and then this hits us. In my case, and Magpie-in-Aus as well, it is a double whammy with him also turning out for our beloved Texans. Luckily I am not up home again until Aug 15 (v Havelock) all going well but by god this is going to be hard to accept an imposter from the 'Poo in my team! Bring back the Barracuda ASAP.
@Higgins - Tech are playing Clive on the 15th. Tech beat Havelock last Saturday.

Look like a bit of good old fashioned biffo in Waipuk. I would have been in my element on the sidelines down there cheering on the Texans and voicing my displeasure and disappointedness at what must have been one eyed allocations of the red cards!

Confirmed for 2020:
Joel Hintz returns for his second season with the Magpies after a solid 2019. As the heart of the Central Hawkes Bay premier forward pack, Hintzy brings power and strength to the tighthead side of the Magpies scrum.
I will have to re-watch the replays of last season matches to see if I agree with the comments shown below the photograph as my fading memory does not recall too much of the last sentence.

@Number-10 My records look to reliably incorrect as per usual then! I shall look forward to seeing the new guy Visinia playing then, also checking up on the progress of Liam Udy Jones.
I went to the Taradale Clive game on Saturday. Visinia is HUGE! Both height and mass. He was playing 13 with Jonah Lowe at 12. Best player for Clive (returning from injury) was Josh Kaifa - all over the park, tackling everything and making some strong runs

I agree he has power and strength, that does not mean he utilizes all that when scrumming through...

I believe Ben May has been signed by Taranaki.
Phew, that might allow me to start having nightmare free sleeps this week.

Confirmed for 2020:
Magpies Captain Ash Dixon has had an outstanding season in Super Rugby with the Highlanders and his hard edge and leadership will be hugely beneficial to the team this year. Heading into his 11th season in the Black and White jersey, Dicko looks to join an elite group of players, playing 100 games for Hawke's Bay.

@Stargazer What's the go with the back with a mullet that played for highlanders but has been injured for a while. One of my favourite Super Rugby players. Tough as teak for a guy not too big.
Has he had to retire?
