NZ v Australia Test #2
-

Just an observation . I have been down at the ground the last 2 days and will be there today as well and I have noticed a big difference in the way both teams prepare . On both days I have been to so far , for quite a while before play starts the Aussies are all either practicing their fielding or warming up their bowlers and some batsmen have been having throw downs even when they have been going out to field and not bat . Meanwhile the Black Caps have spent half an hour or so before they change to play fucking around with a soccer ball and doing nothing at all to do with cricket . Maybe I am just being picky but I would think this is a great chance for the Black Caps coaches to see how the best team in the world goes about things and maybe make a few changes . It is good we don't act like a bunch of homos on the field like many of the Australians do but maybe the way we prepare to play could use a bit of a tweak .

You've lived here a while now, so the questions are:

How often do you need to replace the chip? Can you source it locally in QLD, or do you need to fly it in especially from NZ? Like does it need to be genuine, home grown kauri or what?

:fishing:

Did you not read my last post in that series? I've vented, let off steam, feel better and am over it (And hooked an NTA...).

Aussie cricketers are fluffybunnies and all is right with the world.

P.S. stop defending them. -

You'd better hope that Mr Pocock and his PC brigade don't read this forum with chat like that.
-

It's a cheap shot po-king fun at someone's name, but it's too ironic:

This emphasises to me how fine the margins are in test cricket.

Roll Aus for 405 not 505 and suddenly the chase is 300 and we're in the box seat.

Corey converts his ton and they chase 250 instead of 200 and the game is going deep into the 5th day and it's all on.

We have been semi-competitve this game, but through the series our bowling has been disappointing. We just can't seem to get people out when they get set. How much would we give for a young Shane Bond here...
-
Waj edges between keeper and first slip. Sums up the match.

Mostly it has been sessions where the BC bowlers just couldn't get a wicket that hurt. You let two blokes bat for a solid couple of hours, they're going to get the momentum.

I think the Aussie cricket team are pretty much the personificatioon of "Win at all costs, all that matters is the result". They have been ever since Border. So the whole "there's more to it than that" just seems alien to them.

If you'd been through some of the shit Border went through, you'd probably feel the same way. Its the national fucking game and to feel like some weren't pulling their weight during his era, particularly early on as captain after just watching Hughes bawl his way out of the team.
-

Yeah Oz had some ordinary players in the 80s, hard to see Hadlee taking 9-52 against the team of the 2000's, only 8-55 at best......
-

Great advertisement for getting rid of the toss in test cricket.

Home team briefs the groundsman on what pitch to prepare, away team choses to bat or bowl.

Jeez I don't know many groundsmen who would like that :)
-

While the defeat is inevatible, there has been two massive positives.

Wagner kind of solidifies his position in the team

Anderson's two innings. Must take great character to play like two completely different batsmen within the same match. Completely stoked for him.

I can accept that Australia are a better test team than us. We showed fight though and I am still pleased as punch for our cricketing future
-

Yeah in away this series will be good for us if we learn our lessons from it. Williamson as the new captain has to reign in some of the bust or broke tendencies while keeping some of the innovation and team dynamic of Brendon McCullums reign. NZ cricket would do well to get Stephen Fleming involved in some kind of mentoring role for him.

We have learned that Wagner should be the one of the first names written down on the team sheet.

We learned how important Williamson and Taylor are to us as a batting partnership instead of this he's better than him kind of stuff that have dominated discussions of the 2.

We learned Latham and Anderson are capable of development in test cricket and deserve places moving forward. Martin Guptill maybe not so much

We learned we need a spinner and should only play two of Boult Henry and Southee.

We learned Boult and Southee shouldn't be sacred cow selections either Henry is putting real pressure on Southee and they should get Wheeler involved to up the pressure on Boult.

We learned Mascheranas is really as poor as we all thought and thank god he is moving on.

We also learned Australia is a better team than us but we are not as far behind that victory in the next series against them is beyond us.
-

I don't disagree with any of the above but the toothlessness of our bowling attack concerns me as well as the brittleness of the top order. I don't see too many guys ready to step up to take McCullums place in terms of their ability to smash quick, large scores if Kane has the inevitable failure that he will from time to time.

As a team do we live within our means each summer ie soundly beat Sri Lanka, Windies, Pakistan and Bangladesh on a rotational basis and get a home series against the big boys every few years ? perhaps that's our lot in the world of international cricket.
