how much does teh Force cost now compared to what a full SuperTT Force would cost?
-
The Twiggy thing is a mixture of three things:
- He's an opportunist fluffybunny;
- WA is known for having a wild mistrust of people "over east"; and
- Twiggy combining both things to flog a dead horse and make some mileage out of it.
If we were demonstrably capable of keeping players here with a 5th team, and introducing measures that allowed teams to rise in competitiveness, then I'd say 5 teams would be workable.
As it is, the Force have been plucky, but are hardly a walk-up start. They're an important development resource I think.
Coaching remains a big issue. Oh well and all the fucking connective tissue below that.
If you offer players the opportunity to live and work in Sydney then why the fuck would they take Perth?

Sydney is only Sydney east of the Anzac bridge, Nick. Everything else is "West".

Probably around half.
-
drinking piss in Perth costs even more than it does in Sydney.
I don't know what the coke and rub-and-tug prices are like though

@Kirwan this is what i was going to say, im getting sick of seeing "Overseas All Balcks XV" on social media
Me too. The younger generation really can’t spell these days.

@antipodean who's going to be mid-table and bring in heaps of cash? Maybe if you invite the Japanese national team but otherwise im drawing blanks.
That's why suggested the Brave Blossoms: 'If
Argentinathe Jaguares could play SR, why not the Brave Blossoms?'That’s actually a really good idea. The Japanese national team would actually be a quality addition to the competition.
This PI team that is getting floated is either going to draw all it’s players from existing Super rugby teams, which is stupid, or it will be severely under strength but filled with PI local talent with the odd NH returnee. No way the guys on big bucks up North will come back in significant numbers for the chance to play for much less $$.

@shark I think we would at least have the Brumbies in the final four, who were coming second before lockdown.
But, regardless, i really don't see the issue for you. If you have four finalists isn't that great? you get two home semis and derbies to boot.
Yeah I'm into it mate. The proof will be in the pudding. Such as the season Australia only got a team into an 8 team finals series on the back of a terribly contrived conference qualification system.
-
With say 6 teams (in a 10 team comp) qualifying for finals footy, and the 1/2 spot getting a bye, I could live with a free entry for the first 2 in each of the 2 conferences. The proviso being that all home field advantage is based off the combined points table throughout the finals. If NZ have 5 teams, I couldn't care less about the last of those teams getting a playoff berth.

I'd be disgusted if the fifth and sixth placed teams in a ten team comp made the finals.
Absolutely this!

@antipodean and that why i said 'pipe dream'.
The same pipe dream that had Argentina play SR...
The obvious difference being Argentina didn't have a thriving club competition awash with cash.
Argentina is unique amongst Tier 1 nation, in that its best Club competitions are Amateur. Biggest one being URBA based in Buenos Aires
Moreover the UAR has encouraged its played to head overseas
Likes of Kremer, Petti, Orlando etc have already left Jaguares
Quesada gone to Stade Francais -

Seen alot of chat about a PI team but don't get the appeal or sense
Better to have a 10 team TT comp Each team has Fijian, Tongan & Samoan player in matchday 23
30 players getting high level footy off the bat
Have World Rugby chip with paying the salaryJaps involvement also seems another dead on arrival proposition Top League will not let idea succeed just like Sunwolves Multinational companies pay big $$$ for their players
Jaguares showed Japs how to do things....
I want Japan & Fiji in expanded Rugby Championships

That'll do a lot for developing the midfield backs, wingers, m and loose forwards for the island teams. They really need more talent there.
-
@ravens88 said in 'Super Rugby' 2021:
I don't get your point...
@gt12 is saying that if you do that, you get people playing to their strengths, and not fixing their weaknesses. There are advantages, but it isn't an easy path to success.
One of the things a PI team (or the other option ) solves is the problem with administration in the islands. Generalism, but they seem to suffer from patronage and poor choices around funds (that's as delicate as I can be), where an NZ based team should be focussed on rugby and coaching.
Edit: for clarity, lots of great outside backs, some midfield backs, few to no locks and props

You're using the term "finals" pretty loosely though. No different to top 8 in NRL. Shit, the top 16 make the NBA play-offs!
And yes, I understand the difference in team numbers.

Why would you care? In the hypocritical case that the Blues say came 3rd [amended] , and they then had a home playoff QF against the 6th finishing Reds, that should just be extra revenue for them. If they can't get up against them at home then that's their issue.

I'd care by not bothering to watch and engage during the regular season.
Which is exactly what happened during SR. Terrible regular season attendances.
