@mariner4life i dont know, just as likely smith tries to go in himself, i woldn't beat up the guy too much
smith was well covered, and got hit hard after the pass, it was completely unnecessary. The system totally broke down

two late thoughts after watching the highlights
Loved collins mind games at the end, running into the maul so the chiefs would think we were going for an all in drive....and the nuggie plays it...
and i honestly think sio almost forgot to put it down...
who was the dipshit for us that completely unnecessarily went in on Smith leaving the world's biggest hole right on our lie? That's a read that will haunt you for ages
I think the two outside him bunched and left the hole
now i want to see a replay because that wasn't my impression at all.

I could be wrong. I didn’t exactly watch closely after swearing at the tv.
I just remember two defenders standing almost shoulder to shoulder outside the hole. -

i could be mistaken because i had walked away in disgust
And said "fuck" to your quests at your young son's birthday party.
We definitely need to meet for a beer.

On the Dmac non try. The fuck up was them missing the offside in the first place. Having a whinge about them correcting the mistake is stupid.
remember George Clancy in SA and the Forward Pass?
OK with the protocols being ignored? What if it was 5 phases back, or 6 ... or offside at the kickoff? How far back do you go?

It’s not ideal i agree. However, making the correct call is 1000x more important IMO. This game was a perfect example. If they ignore their initial fuck up, which the touch judge clearly saw because he subsequently pointed it out, because it went through one phase too many then the game is over and we never get to see one of the best comebacks in years. Or they go back 10-20m and make the correct call.
It sways the argument IMO because the touch judge saw it. That's different from the TMO going back to review everything because someone complained or the broadcaster keeps playing it on the big screen.

@KiwiMurph Sorry, when I said all at sea I meant the one that complexity fucked up which was #13. He went in to take Smith when Smith was already covered. #23 was left hanging out there but it was because he trusted his inside man.
yep, found the highlights. ALB bites hard on Smith, leaving a monstrous gap that his player ran in to.
I'm dialing the hatred back just a little because the gap Smith is heading for looks way bigger than i thought when ALB makes a decision. And he probably can't see the defender. But it's a shit read, and from a player who should do better. And it's a shit piece of communication, and the whole defensive alignment is out of whack.
Great unders line to hit that hole, and Smith played it to perfection.
But it's all on you Anton.
where's a cat to kick?

i am convinced the last penalty that gave the Highlanders the opportunity was bullshit
i can't justify that comment with anything, i just want to feel like we were stitched up
-
@antipodean ....what?
-
Is Cane getting a bit of a pass here regarding his captaincy? Sure the Chiefs have been ravaged by injuries but they had that game. If there is one area you'd expect Cane to be able to lead from it would defending a lead. Instead all they could do was wilt under the pressure.
I guess it's better he gets the experience through the Chiefs rather than the ABs.
-
I can't suggest with a straight face that the refereeing was quality. Seemed to me from the outset there'd be a game defining howler when they walked out onto the ground and then worked out the comms were a bust.

Yeah it's not great.
-
that is the weird thing about announcing a captain so early...set yourself up to look a bit silly if he has a bad season and some young bucks come through
-

Hmm, I stand corrected. Must have been an earlier one. I was a few beers in by then.
Also; providing evidence for your assertions is a bannable offence.

I think Cane is getting a bit of a pass for his play. He gave away two penalties, plus the YC, missed four tackles (although made 15), and ran for piss all (1 carry, 2 metres).
So, he becomes the last of our quality players to drop into a form dip.
A few things I still don't get - they didn't bring on Cruden, hoping that Trask would close it out. I'm not sure why, especially as he was starting to fall off tackles (he missed 4).
The replacements may as well have not even shown up.
Geldenhuys stat line is a fucking tragedy: No metres, no carries, no passes, 3 tackles made, 1 missed, conceded 3 penalties. Yes, that's right - led the team in poor discipline off the bench. Beer earned.
Thomson is only slightly better: No metres, no carries, no passes, 4 tackles.
TTT: No metres, no carries, 3 passes, 1 tackle made, 3 misses!
Tupaea: No metres, no carries, no passes, 4 tackles, 2 misses
Takei'aho: 3 metres, 1 carry, 1 turnover conceded ( a big one too), 5 tackles, 1 missed, 1 penalty.

Definitely helps. Keep that as long as you live.
Bob Deans in 1905. I wasn't alive but I harbour the grudge well. John Dallas was the ref in case anyone wants to join in.
