i probably am too, think i would rather otago won than the highlanders
Yep. Auckland for me. I was at Eden park every weekend with my Dad as a kid. At the supporters club, knew the players, great memories. I like the Blues and I'm invested but it takes a shitload of time to get there.

John leslie and paul cooke coached my highschool team (whilst playing for otago)...there was just better connection with the community then

enough, i honestly dont think that would stop though, a lot of that came out of our old NPC rivalries so there would just be a natural progression, it would just be anther way to draw a line under it
I dont really have any affiliation or 'love' for the Chiefs (who we were part of initially) or the Blues (who we are part of now) I support all NZ sides equally haha
bullshit!!! you were balls deep on teh Blues when they looked like winning the comp...
I've been following the Chiefs for what, 25 years now? That's long enough to get attached. Starting again would be retarded.
I've been a Bay supporter my whole life, but in reality only consciously about 10 years more than that.
The Chiefs are now as much a part of my supporter identity as any team.
So this.
What's the average age of posters here? I think if you are 40 you are probably young; we aren't a good sample to gauge attachendness to the Super franchises - most kids (certainly the ones I know) would support the Chiefs, Blues, Landers etc. plus perhaps the local province.
I also know a bunch of millenials who have taken the @Nepia option and support a team outside their area. My cousin was a pro footy player, born in Auckland, but rightly saw that supporting the Chiefs was the way forward (he was with us during the foster years too so it's not like he picked us up when we were great).
So, I don't see any reason to dump the current franchises.

resetting the crusaders championship count not enough for people?...just me?...fair enough

It's not like Canterbury are weak, and the moment that NPC teams became important, they'd pull the rug out on Ta$man, who are only kept in it by the Saders giving them plenty of talent to be competitive (e.g. the Saders academy 'pushes' people to different teams by placing them in Nelson or Christchurch), Ta$man doesn't have an academy.
If Ta$man were forced to fight without the Saders standing behind them, they'd be fucked.
And, if the main team was Canterbury, it would just be the Saders.

to me the options are keep them, or dump them and revert to provinces. Any other step doesn't make any sense.
-
I think I agree; you don't want two or three new Super franchises?
-
@mariner4life it was really just a bit about symbolism, a chance to draw a line under things and reconnect with the communities theyre in, a have a few friends in invercargill for example and theyve pretty much given up on the highlanders, not represented etc and i think thats probably pretty common out of the main centers
also might smooth things if we introduced a couple of new teams, everyone would have to support someone new rather than just the one from franchises that had been split
..and the crusaders thing

where? that's the issue. and what makes people support them now? Why do you change your support? or do you wait 15 years to get new supporters coming through?
It'll be like all the people up here who remain Broncos supporters from the time when they were the only Qld team, and have never moved to the Cowboys.

@Snowy there was a thread/poll several years back asking for ages, think I was in the 'average age' of posters here at the sprightly age of thirty-sixteen years old!
So quite some time ago then? If I didn't know better I would assume that you were a youngish lass from Lodz.
I'm still bloody here though, and so are all of you pricks who are no younger either.
-
Yeah, I think we'd be better to keep the five and find a way to have a competition that works with other countries.

Exactly it. And their kids, etc. It doesn't happen overnight.
