I think my favourite sporting cliché that Nisbo always manages to bust out is "the tackle had to be made"......I'm not quite the rugby obsessive that a lot of piston wristed gibbons on here are.....but can someone tell me when a tackle doesn't have to be made ? next season is it going to be "it's ok Crudes, you don't have to make that tackle if you don't want to, Bender should get him in cover....."

Bowling looks so insipid, not testing at all which was a feature of recent success

Could be quality of Batsmen, probably is, but we've had about 4 days at these blokes for feck all return

Boult's all over leg stump at half rat power, Southee can't even earn the second new ball

Hope Jurgensen knows how to teach about reverse swing, perhaps our boys aren't quick enough for that?

Disappointing seeing the bowling falling away so much, but quality of opposition plays a part. Disciplined batting from Burns and Smith for sure though

Australia are getting into a position where they are playing for 2 results. If Australia can bat most of tomorrow then we would need another McCullum special to even put us in the contest.

Ton to the skipper. Hardly wham-bam but probably as important. They'll have eyes on a lead mid point of tomorrow morning's session.

If they keep on at this rate, scores will be tied today.

66 runs in 18 overs is doable, but the last few overs they will slow down

Number of Australian Batsmen with test batting averages over 50.......five......

Number of New Zealand Batsmen with test batting averages over 50......( well, one...... provided KW scores a plethora of runs in his next dig )

I remember before the first Aussie series last year we have 5 who averaged plus 40 and they only had 3.

So if Australia are 700 by this time tomorrow we will have about an hour and 2 days to bat 230 behind.

Think we will be lucky to escape with a draw from this one. We have to really stick to line and length when they start trying to speed up the scoring rate and try to use up time.

The BCs haven't wilted like last time but still a limp lackluster display overall, the score would look seven shades of shithouse if BMac and Anderson hadn't decided to play a 20/20 in the middle of a test innings.

2nd and 6th highest averages of all time at the crease at the moment. Fair to say we're in a spot of bother.
