AFL 2021

So, State of the Game comes up again. This time Clarko says it's shit (which i think is a sneaky way to get more free kicks for Hawthorn). Commentators are all in on it. And i have a lot of sympathy.
The biggest take from me is, the AFL need to stop asking coaches their opinions. Coaches want to win, they couldn't give a fuck about how it looks. Modern coaching is the bane of all football codes.
There is something pretty wrong with the game though. It started with Roosy at @Kiwiwomble 's mob. And it's been downhill ever since. Ross Lyon took up the mantle. And then Richmond. It's all risk free football and pressure.
I don't know how to change it, because coaches will just find a way to get control back no matter what.

I'm still learning so forgive my ignorance on Roosy, i can see why we currently avoid risks...they rarely pay off for us!

Basically Paul Roos when coaching the Swans flooded the backline and played defensively. It killed the spectacle.
Lyon took an attacking Saints side and turned them into a boring defensive side.

....i mean...i woldn't mind if we could stop people scoring currently

Rodney Eade was already playing that way with the Swans.

Rodney Eade was already playing that way with the Swans.
Roos was Eade’s assistant but when he got the head coach role he took that style even further. Eade had Lockett and so their style was far more attacking than Roos.

Sidebottom gets a four week ban for breaking COVID protocols, just listened to Eddie in the news
“He’s done nothing wrong and copped a ban for it, we’ve all gone out and drank too much, drank until you didn’t know what your ‘re doing”...”it’s only after becoming disorientated that’s he’s broken the rules”
“We’re proud of him”
WTF? I’m going out on a limb and Saying going out and drinking so much you don’t know where you or what your doing is probably the thing he did wrong
-
@Kiwiwomble a southern man scolding a man for a few bevvies after a game of footy?? 🤔 you fair dinkum?😉

Tony Lockett? Eade coached the Swans in the 2000s with no Lockett. Don't know what he was like prior with Lockett but those 2000s sides based around Adam Goodes and an Irishman weren't excitement machines.

Eddie is a giant fuckhead.
-
Rocket got the head coach position in 96, the year after Plugger’s first season at the Swans. Plugger was effective under Eade’s style averaging almost 5 goals a game. His comeback in 02 after retirement was bizarre...

@Siam so, the story I’ve just read as he claims he wasn’t that drunk...he just always takes his pants off before going to the bathroom...but opened the front door instead of the toilet door and ended up outside and thought it was easier to try and walk home than get back inside, hence why the cops picked him up walking down the road with no pants and had to drive him home 🤣

It's pretty weird hey. Especially because he seems like such a level bloke, and has been squeaky clean for as long as he's been in the league.
If it was some 21 year old greenhorn you'd understand it, or a renowned pisshead. And Eddie's explanation makes it worse - 'who among us can say they've never gotten so blind they've confused the front yard for the toilet, locked themselves out and then attempted to walk home half naked in the freezing cold morning'.
-
@barbarian having seen Eddie on the sauce, I’d say that has probably happened to him a few times...
Oh yeah Saaaaaaaaaaaiiiinnnntttterssssssss
-
Speaking of Eddie, he’s given an impassioned plea right now on Fox Footy about keeping the season going, keeping positive, stop the doomsaying. Pretty good from him.

@shark nah he's right. Rocket started in the mid-90s
Part of the plan of the flood was to free up space for lockett.
Yeah but the point is Eade started the flooding tactic and in the early 2000s his teams were crap.
