Hastings beat Clive 29-22. Clive led 17-7 at halftime.
Clive forwards dominated the last 20 minutes of the first half, Hastings forwards dominated the whole second half.
Hastings were awarded two penalty tries in the second half. The first after Clive conceded a third consecutive penalty on their line, the second after a scrum going backwards on their line.
In the first half, Hastings conceded six consecutive penalties on their line and did not concede a penalty try although they did lose a man to a yellow card. So the referee was certainly not consistent in applying the penalty tries.
For Hastings new halfback from Otago Connor McLeod looked okay, played 75 minutes - has a good pass on him, particularly off his left hand, but did no running and kicked just once, so not much variation. Folau Fakatava came on for the last 20 minutes and played at centre.
Danny Toala and Mason Emerson did not play - Toala took out the kicking tee and Emerson was water boy.
Tiaan Falcon played the whole game for Clive at first-five, and Jonah Lowe played the whole game as well - at second five-eighth for the first half and right wing for the second half.
Josh Kaifa played the whole game for Clive as well.

Results Premiers:
Central v Tamatea: 27 - 24
Hastings R&S v Clive: 29 - 22
MAC v Taradale: 22 - 33
Napier Tech v Napier OBM: 17 - 12
Napier Pirate v Havelock North: 19 - 66I have just uttered those magic words "Shout the Bar!!!!!! The treasurer of the Wellington Football Club will be rubbing her hands with glee at the result of the Tech game as I suspect it definitely won't be the last beer I am drinking tonight. A victory lap of Hataitai is probably on the cards despite the shite rainy southerly weather conditions. Incidentally the Wellington Axemen defeated Avalon 17 - 14 in a good old fashioned mud bath slog out at Hataitai Park today. Needless to say the Isherwood Lounge at the WFC is heaving at the moment.
Has anyone sited Stockcar86? -
@Stargazer It promises to be a good (and expensive) night as I have been introduced to the Uncle of a former captain of the Axemen and he is a Tech man. Needless to say but the beers are certainly flowing big time!!! I am about to utter "Shout the Bar" for the third time tonight. Fortunately there is a court session about to commence down in the changing rooms for the Premier Axemen team so that will reduce the cost a bit. I will join them in about an hour so things look to be becoming a bit messy for Higgings before the night is out.

@Magpie_in_aus A pushover try against the evil empire surely must rate as the try of the season, not to mention a fantastic forward rumble try that had me positively glowing knowing which team has the tougher pack. Looks like a very late converted try salvaged a close loss bonus point for the Doolies so that was a bit of a downer.

Havelock beat MAC 30-27, after leading 15-14 at halftime.
Win was probably deserved as Havelock scored four tries to three, also had more ball and territory. MAC's good defence kept Havelock out.
MAC had the wind and rain behind them in the second half and led 20-15 early in the second half with two penalty goals but Havelock came back with two tries for 30-20 lead.
MAC scored their third try with three minutes left to close to 30-27 and in the final minute MAC was awarded a penalty in the Havelock 22. They kicked for touch, won the lineout, but then someone threw a forward pass and that ended the game.
Devan Flanders played the whole game for Havelock as did Shannan Chase who scored their first try. Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong had a good game at fullback, caught everything kicked to him and wasn't afraid to run at the opposition. A shame Havelock aren't playing him at first-five, they played Trinity Spooner there who also did the goalkicking.
Lincoln McClutchie played okay for MAC, was 100% with his goalkicking.

@Number-10 Thanks for that write-up!
If you read the article on Hawke's Bay App, of which I posted the link in my previous post, it may not be coincidence that he plays fullback:
Former Hawke's Bay Sevens rep Ah Kiong [Latrell's dad], 43, who played everywhere in the backline during his premier career, agreed fullback was the berth his son should be chasing for the Magpies but he could also cope in the pivot role.
Maybe he's playing fullback for the Village, because he hopes to play there for the Magpies one day?

I was impressed with his play at first-five last year for Hastings Boys and would like to see him in that position at a higher level.

Hastings defeated Pirates 44-5, eight tries to one says it all.
Mason Emerson played centre for Hastings. Connor McLeod, varied his play well at halfback, made three or four good runs, did some good tactical kicking and passed well. His only drawback was his goalkicking. He converted the first two tries but then missed the next five, including one from straight in front of the posts which hit the left upright and rebounded back. Another kicker missed the last conversion.
Pouri Rakete-Stones played the whole game for Pirates and carried the ball up numerous times.
A mate of mine watched the Tamatea v Havelock match which Havelock won easily 73-20. He texted me that Tony Lamborn came on for the second half for Havelock and scored a try.
