Gold Coast were 3-1 to start last year weren't they?

True, but they weren't putting 50 on anyone.

The class of West Coast, GWS, Geelong and Richmond will come out in the end but it wouldn't shock me if the premiership was won by Collingwood, Brisbane or Port.

    its interesting ,

the long break seems to have worked out better for some, hasnt worked out for richmond that is for sure , extra long break as premiers with their feet up feeling content , have come back looking like they cant be fucked

its wide open thats for sure , we could end up with a premier that no one expected

    nah, it'll even out later.

Gold Coast were 3-1 to start last year weren't they?

Not sure , but this is a shorter season ,so there is less time

Im not liking what ive seen from richmond so far , they lack run and work rate ,attitude looks poor, the things you associate with them in recent times are missing

Im tipping a st kilda team full of run and enthusiasm , to run them off their feet

Wonky season so far. Is it possible that there is only one genuinely shit team, and that's Adelaide?

The usual easybeats (Carlton, Melbourne, Gold Coast, St Kilda) might have a bit of go about them and could all compete for the 8.

The outbreak of Corona is pretty worrying as it throws a spanner into the travel arrangements. No team is going to want to go to Vic, and no other state will be keen to host Vic sides.

really strange, Port top? Crows bottom and just awful. Carlton win in Geelong? Sydney somehow 2-1? Richmond, GWS and West Coast battling?

My wife is a mad Carlton fan so I've watched a fair bit of them the last few years.

They are clearly a better side this year than they have been in a long while IMO. Some good young on-ballers in Walsh and Martin have come on, they've found a decent ruckman (Kreuzer is good but made of glass), and their back three of Docherty, Weitering and Jones is looking really good.

Eddie Betts coming back is also big, he was huge against Geelong and seems to be the heart and soul of the team.

Slightly unlucky in they still could finish 15th given the quality of the comp, although they have a stroke of luck with Essendon coming up. Looks like they might have their whole backline in quarantine for the game.

Kruezer should be their cream if when he plays. He should be like David Hale was for the Hawks when they won their three-peat.

Eddie was awesome vs Geelong, but pants the week before. So as long as he plays up every week then thats good - but hes what 35? That'll be hard.

Cripps is a monster for them. Lookin' like he has some support now, which makes him more dangerous. Hes elite as a midfielder, and now when he rests forward - hes scoring goals too. Superstar.

Yeah I don't think you can expect that performance every week, but it was nice for him to show he still has it in him.

It's the effort plays that are still so important - diving smothers, hard chases, loose ball gets. Much needed in a forward line light on experience and dare I say talent (without Charlie Kurnow).

Individually they look like a team that didn't think they'd be playing this year. Hopefully there's been some words at training.

Whoa. One of those "usual easybeats" made a preliminary final in 2018 and were within a game of the eight the year prior. And it wasn't that long ago the Saints were a premier team.

    14th, 16th, 16th, 16th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 17th, 13th, 11th, 9th, 4th, 17th

    if the shoe fits...

in the interest of balance, the Lions are only 12 months from the same category.

How long did you spend digging that out? 😝

In COVID language, they had flatten the curve to an average of 14th with one spike

Or a solid upward curve followed by a random shitter out of the blue. Averaging 10th the last three years.

It could be worse - try watching AWFL with its air swings and 5½ yard long kicks and pretend blokes spitting and swearing and trying ever so hard to swagger. And goal umpires nodding off to sleep. The fans are told that they love it and are right behind it. It is deemed r8cist to disagree.

Stop Press: Grumpy Old Man in Grumpy Old Man Rant

TBH it isn't great watching but then a lot of women's team sport is just getting going. They're never going to get to the same physical state as men's team.

Don't hear anyone bitching about tennis being pathetic, because they've had decades to get to where they are.

I think what's ridiculous is that they're professional and some empty drums are agitating for pay equality (see soccer) despite every aspect of the game not being professional in any way shape or form. It's a ridiculous spectacle.

dude, look who you are quoting.

The problem isn't the quality (which actually gets better as the season progresses, for very obvious reasons) so much as it is the way it is marketed. It's not a quality TV product as yet, and shouldn't be marketed as such. It'll get there though. Some of the girls that play it are phenomenal athletes

The one thing that cannot be denied is the impact a pro footy league for women has had on local comps. Women and girls are taking up the sport all over (netball better watch its back). My neighbour is in the Suns academy now (or was, in March) and the opportunities she was to be given were amazing. That pathway development is only strengthening the AFLs hold on non-traditional areas.

Only one other Essendon player needs to quarantine, so it looks like they will field a near-full strength team vs Carlton.

Good news for the AFL in general. Means the odd positive test shouldn't throw the whole schedule into disarray.

No one will whinge more than the Richmond and Collingwood mouthbreathers if the GF isn't at their home Ground

I like the hubs, because the Lions are racking up the home games.

GF in Perth makes a lot of sense if they can stay Covid-free.

Would be a much better spectacle and help kill off the '2020 is not a real season' criticism.

Nothing would be lamer than the full time siren going at the MCG followed by a meek few cheers from 5,000 distanced fans.

saw on the news this morning the SCG is always campaigning hard for it, possibly a better location for interstate people to make the journey and it will be nice for the swans to play at home 😉

covid free WA will probably trump all thought
