So now that I've had time to reflect on this, I'm even more angry at the government.
They took 100% of our rights away for more than a month while they implemented the most draconian lockdown in the world. We all went along with it for the greater good, and we got rid of Covid altogether.
And for what? If the virus spreads again, and based on what we are seeing it seems almost inevitable that it will, what then? We can't go back into lockdown. There was debate about whether the cure was worse than the disease with the first one, if we do it again that will almost certainly be the case.
So what was that lockdown for? What was their long term plan? Close the borders until an unlikely vaccine is created? But then if that was the plan, why are they granting exemptions when it only takes one person to spread it far and wide again?
Or are these politicians so hopelessly out of touch that they think they can just do the lockdown again if need be?
I don't see anything coherent around what our long term plan is for this.
I believe their plan is another lockdown, damn the consequences to the economy.

that can't be right. They can't be that stupid. No one is that stupid
After the dick waving on the weekend, there is zero chance they would attempt another lockdown. It would be political suicide.

Ashley Bloomfield outlines what he's responsible for today:
The Director-General of Health has provided updated information around the two active cases announced yesterday.
“We have always expected that New Zealand would get more cases of COVID-19, especially with more people from overseas coming into the country,” said Dr Ashley Bloomfield.
“COVID-19 remains a serious pandemic continuing to affect many countries. We are not immune to further cases arriving on our shores.
“The risk of spread of COVID-19 from these two cases while they were travelling to New Zealand and in the managed isolation facility they were in is low but not impossible, so we are ensuring all steps are in place to mitigate the risk.
“As Director-General of Health, I have overall system responsibility for the health operations of our self-isolation facilities and exemptions.
“In this instance, these individuals should have been tested prior to leaving the managed isolation facility.
“I am taking responsibility for ensuring this does not happen again.
"We have put in place a number of actions to provide the public and Government assurance that anyone arriving into New Zealand does not pose any risk from COVID-19."

I for one appreciate his efforts on our behalf. Very generous.
(Just quietly I kind of liked him).

Personally I feel the environment is better now. There's still some pretty robust debate, but most of the time people are playing the ball not the man

A few callers on ZB have said that Air NZ flight attendants apparently do not have to go through quarantine upon arrival. Can someone confirm this? If this true then it's only a matter of time before the 2nd wave hits.
@dogmeat said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
Stewards had no PPE and when asked confirmed that when they land they go home to their families with no restrictions at all.

I think that is true re aircrew, pilots anyway. They don't mix with the public as much as flight attendants, and pretty much all aircrew have a couple of weeks off after every flight at the moment. Whether they self isolate is a different matter.

I have a couple of patients who are air crew, they were having to quarantine/self-isolate for 14 days in oz and here after flying. But that was in L2, they might be all on now

Well if you didn't mention the Orange Johnson in the US politics thread it wasn't too bad.
