@Chris-B The truth is that Canterbury hates you too! 😉

I never thought that the Cantab fans could ever be out-Cantabed, but @Chris-B has proven me wrong.

My gloating campaign has been so successful that Mark Robinson is considering playing the ABs in the NPC for the first time in years - simply to stop me! 🙂

The original 2020 draw has been removed from allblacks.com but it started on a Thu night.

You can find that draw here:

    a bunch of loser unions

Care to name them (other than everyone else)? Just want to see the rocks thrown at you, and where they come from.

It really has. I thought England rugby had it nailed, but no, Mako are right up their for most hated disliked team.

I quite liked Ta$man when they were initially formed, but, then @Chris-B mutated into a Ta$man version of a combination of Phooey/Canerby/all Press sports writers 😉 , they hired the Hammettuer, and they found a chequebook hidden somewhere.

Now, they're not quite at BoP/the Poo levels, but they're getting there.

It's a bit unfair to hate on the Mako themselves - when it's me who is being a one man army of obnoxiousness! 🙂

@Chris-B Do what you are good at.

I actually am O.K about the Mako (others differ). They win. Someone mentioned it I think...

When I lived down there Nelson bays were seriously shit.

@Snowy Both me and England rugby probably learned from the excessive humility of 1966.

    Sing when you're winning! 🙂

That took me a minute, as it wasn't rugby, but yes.

@Stargazer guess this year there wont be any need for them to squeeze in the weeks...could probably have tried out a full RR of everyone plays everyone

The other thing about it, is you assume ABs are likely to be involved a bit too, given right now, internationals up in the air.

As stated earlier, a full Mitre 10 Cup with semis and a final would have the season finish on 19 December which is far too late.

Fuck it, the players have had two months off already, with minimal training possible, so if they play SR Aoteroa and then play a full round robin NPC until a week before Xmas, who cares? Harden the fuck up. They'll then have a couple of weeks off, like the rest of us, and get back to work. Like the rest of us.

Very surprised to see these particular unions in the most trouble. If only the NZRU had commissioned a report in the past to test the viability and financial resiliency of all unions and had been able to identify three of these four earlier.

NZR don't need to commission a report - they are aware of the financial status of the provincial unions, because the unions have to file their financial reports (balance sheets etc) every year to them as NZR inspect them to ensure the salary cap has not been breached.

In the past NZR has even bailed out unions with loans like Waikato, Otago, Southland, Ta$man, Wairarapa Bush

The financial results and viability of the provincial unions are even available to the average punter like all of us when Deloittes annually publish their survey of the provincial unions.

I'm being somewhat flippant. The report that came out around 2009 pretty clearly spelled out a 14 team top flight was not viable and identified the best candidates to drop. The economic reality in the decade since has only made the situation worse. While other unions made radical improvements in the past decade like BOP & Ta$man it is really disappointing to see Northland and Southland cap in hand yet again. Ditto Harbour.
