Mitre 10 Cup to start in September
As a result of the confirmation of the start of Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa, NZR has now confirmed a start time for this yearβs Mitre 10 Cup.
βWith the support of the Provincial Unions, we have been able to schedule a full 14 team Mitre 10 Cup Premiership and Championship competition with kick off on 11 September,β said Robinson.
An amended Mitre 10 Cup draw will be released in due course.
NZR is continuing to work with the Provincial Unions on the best format for this yearβs Farah Palmer Cup, as well as options for the Black Ferns as the country builds up to Rugby World Cup 2021.

@Bovidae If it's a full 14 team competition, there will be 3 more round robin games on top of the 4 cross-over games that were already scheduled. I guess it depends on whether they expect the All Blacks to be available for NPC, or not, and whether any All Blacks games will be played this year, and when.

It depends on how you interpret "a full 14 team Mitre 10 Cup Premiership and Championship competition". If every team plays each other they wouldn't need to make the distinction between "Premiership" and "Championship" in any article. I take it as meaning 14 teams will be involved, but not necessarily in a single competition. We'll see.

I think by a "full" competition that just mean it will basically be the same draw as planned, just pushed back a bit. 13 weeks plus 2 rounds of playoffs would see a grand final on December 19 (assuming one game per week). I can't see them going that late when Super Rugby teams have to report in January. I think the most likely and best scenario would be the usual draw which would end in late November. Maybe the Bledisloe could happen in October.

@Bovidae as I have said all along, if they must continue with the crossover matches (which I'm ok with, I know some think they are a waste) they could ditch one of them and do away with the 'storm week' which would remove the need for the Wed/Thurs games

@Chris-B What will this full round robin do to your Invitational Team's chances of a Shield Challenge?
Nothing at all.
But, as the UNDEFEATED, UNDISPUTED, CHAMPEEEEEEEEEENS OF NEW ZEALAND RUGBY.......we don't really care anymore!

@Chris-B When did Nelson Bays last challenge for the Ranfurly Shield? I doubt you fuckers even know what it looks like!
We don't.
But, the way it's been passed around a bunch of loser unions, I'm picturing bright pink lipstick and bleached blonde hair?

@Chris-B stop living in the past bro!!
I was kind of hoping NZ Rugby would send this year's M10 Cup the same way as Heartland rugby, so that I could paraphrase George Gregan with a, "Twelve more months, boys...".
If we have to contend with a bunch of All Black stacked opponents, I'm a bit concerned at how promotion relegation will work.
Maybe the bottom Premiership team should play off against the winner of Division 2 at the start of the 2021 season.

They already did away with 'storm week' and Wednesday games, last season; there were 10 rounds in which teams played one game (6 against teams of their own division and 4 cross-over games) and then a weekend of semi-finals and a weekend of finals. That's 12 weeks. So they can do the same thing this year.
