2015/16 NBL Thread

Yeah not a fan of Fearne's offensive structure. However Wortho tends to have a licence on offence and does a lot of stuff himself which doesn't help either (albeit he played well individually last night).

United hasn't had a big 3 point shooting game for a while but last night were on fire. If they learn to consistently play D and start to rebound, they will be tough.

We need to get out of this funk. Our lulls in games are costing us. We can always make a run, we have the best scoring guard in the league, we have a point guard who can get to the basket, but our front court guys other than Tai Wesley are very inconsistent. And man Te Rangi can't hit the side of a barn door. Opposition teams are giving him open 3's and he's lost all confidence. Time to step it up Rueben.
-

I was giving Te Rangi heaps up here on New Years, he went on this little run where all he did was foul, turn it over, or throw up terrible shots. Then he got sat down. I love having good seats at the basketball.

I think Fearne is scared of Wortho, as he's the only guy given leeway. I have seen guys score and get chewed out for getting out of the plan.
-

More of the same for the Breakers unfortunately. That was an ugly 2 quarter. I switched the TV off at HT.

The Breakers need to solve their problems with the Hawks as Sunday's game is a must-win. Making your shots and controlling the tempo would be a good start!
-

The Breakers found a way to lose to the Hawks. If Vukona makes even one FT they win, and I can't believe they didn't intentionally foul at the end of regulation when up by 3. Dumb play.

I think the 36ers will overtake the Breakers as the 4th qualifier. It will be a season of what ifs for the Breakers.
-

At least you didn't cop 3 absolute hidings in the space of 3 days from the same club. We're officially mathematically fucked now, so apparently the coach is playing development players.

Telling quote from Fearne, he was happy when we were disruptive, and now we're not. His entire philosophy in one line. Play to drag the opposition in to a shit fight. It's a scorers league now.
-

Oh, and Breakers fans, i would feel for you, but you've won what, three in a row? and 4 of the last 5? boo hoo.

-

The Breakers will have a new coach and CEO/General Manager next season. Henare and Boucher's promotions are part of a succession plan according to the article below.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/basketball/76024515/paul-henare-dillon-boucher-named-as-new-nz-breakers-coach-and-general-manager
-
The Breakers look a shadow of their former selves, getting pumped by Townsville
-
Think they are in a rut
-
On paper they still look a good team but they are playing sloppy right now. Not sure if they've tuned Vickerman out, the timing of the announcement for new coach next season felt odd
-

The Crocs were supposedly the easier of these 2 games. I can't see the Breakers beating M4L's mob either.

-

um, in case you haven't noticed, we're a bit shit at the moment (and by moment, i mean this season). We're certainly not going to win by blowing you away and scoring 85.

-
Breakers are doing their best to choke their current game away. They are just not playing smart at the moment and their foul shooting is appalling
-

Another choking display by the Breakers. Up 25 at the start of the 4th quarter needing to win by 15 to win the season tie breaker vs Adelaide, which could be crucial in deciding who makes the playoffs, 4 minutes to go and they've pissed away most of it to lead by only 11 with 4 minutes to go. Typical of their late season form

-

The game is over and the NZB managed to pull their finger out for a 22 point win. This may be huge if the playoff race continues to be tight

-

Cedric had a big game. If only he could make his FTs. Looking at the box score they kept Ere quiet.

So the Breakers are alive for another round. They now need Cairns to do them a favour before beating the Taipans on the weekend.
-

The 36ers best player may not make it back before the playoffs, and they have a tough run in. Here's hoping
-

The Taipans did the Breakers a big favour by beating the 36ers. Now the Breakers need to beat Cairns in Auckland on Sunday to move ahead of the 36ers into 4th. The home and away series with Melbourne to end the regular season will be tough. Winning the home game will be essential but beating them on their homecourt might not be required depending on the 36ers results with Illawarra and Perth.

If the Breakers can't win both home games they don't deserve to make the playoffs.
-

So far, so good for the Breakers. A win over the Taipans moves them into 4th. A big game vs Melbourne on Friday.

-

Well after a disastrous 2 months of playing kak ball, we get a couple of big must win games.

So 36ers have 2 games left both away from home and against sides (Hawks, Wildcats) that are securely locked into the playoffs. Last I heard they were hoping to get 'Handles' back for the Perth game.

We have a home and away spilt with United, the other team locked into the playoffs. Big week of NBL coming
-

An easy 37-pt win for the Breakers over an understrength Melbourne team. Now they wait and hope Illawarra takes care of Adelaide at home.

Both Perth and Melbourne have rested a number of starters in this round, with Perth effectively conceding 1st place to Melbourne and avoiding a potential trip to Auckland in the playoffs.
-
For Breakers fans so far so good. The Hawks are up by 10 over Adelaide
-
HT and Hawks still up and playing well. 36ers also playing well but have had little answer for the Hawks offence.

Handles relatively quiet but he has been big in the 2nd half of games. I'm still nervous.... -
4:55 to go in the 4th and Hawks up by 21. We are safe.
-

Breakers make the playoffs. Again. Time to dust off that old bandwagon. Again.

-

The big question now is what do both coaches do in the game tomorrow? With the quirks of the draw the Breakers and Melbourne will be playing eachother at least 4 games in a row. Vickerman may choose to rest a few starters in Melbourne and give the bench players extended minutes. Either way, both coaches will want to keep their powder dry.

-
One quarter left in SF1, breakers up 2
-

A great road win by the Breakers. Mika was a beast and Ced made plays when he needed to. 91-82 was the final score.

-
Breakers win, push around a soft Melbourne team, back to vector to close it out

Pledger definitely stepped up in the 4th Q with good interior defence and rebounding but he was really timid in quarters 1-3. I was getting frustrated with him.

Listening to the Aussie commentary was interesting. Heal has a soft spot for the Breakers, Derek Rucker was good value, but the main commentator was a real homer.
-

Fuck yeah Breakers are my TEAM!!

I was screaming for him to hold the ball tight when a Melbourne player came around and knocked a rebound out of his hands. The guy is a bit unco but he just doesn't realise how big and strong he is. Having said that, Warrick was their best last night and the Chief shut him down when it mattered
-
Dwayne Russell is his name. He's an AFL commentator. Right from the tip off he was already cheerleading for United.

Loved Rucker's post game interview with Cedric, asking him about being snubbed in the All-NBL 1st and 2nd teams.

Pledgers rebounding was excellent I thought. Warwick was on fire and really bought his A game, but we shut him down late in the game and with our other players stepping up it was a great team effort. -

The way Melbourne play they are going to struggle to beat us on the weekend. Hopefully if we do make it Perth Wildcats knock out the Wollongong "Wildcats" as we don't match up well with them

-

The fucking Breakers aye. Those bastards know how to win finals games.

Oh, and fuck off Melbourne
-

Didn't Dylan Boucher wear one for a while too?

Goulding made a bitch play in the 4th quarter last night. Abercrombie saved a ball headed for the out of bounds by diving over, Goulding reached over grabbed his leg and touched it onto the out of bounds while dobbing Tom into the ref. Ref didn't fall for it and awarded a foul on replay (not following procedure!!) Bitch, like I said
