Sounds the exact opposite of my lad. He has real skills on the guitar but has a "80% close enough is good enough " attitude which does my head in sometimes.
Balance between nagging him and getting him to up his standards, but also wanting him to stay in love with the guitar and not find it a chore.
These last 2 weeks he has been learning Stairway, Better Be Home Soon, and You Shook Me All Night Long

I probably didn't state that right - the boy is lazy. Has a fairly solid level of natural talent but won't spend the hours a day to hone it into a weapon.
His "perfection" derives from him stopping every time he makes a mistake. Hasn't learned the art of playing through that.

Rick Beato uploaded this a couple days ago, he talks about the first song he learned on guitar. I thought it was going to bore me (it’s an obscure song by America) but I found the story utterly absorbing. You might enjoy.
