Best Maori & Polynesian Super Rugby XV's
-
The Canes are celebrating their Māori & Pacific players and fans with Mana Moana week at Sky Stadium on Saturday.
It got me thinking, who would make an all-time Mana Moana Canes XV - feel free to add a Blues one in here aswell.
Considering the likes of Cullen and Coles count, here is my stab at an all time XV: * I feel like I've missed someone obvious in the locking department.
- Schwalger 2. Coles 3. Tialata (but would probably have Lomax over him already) 4. Tito 5. Fatialofa 6. Collins 7. Savea 8. So'oialo 9. Perenara 10. Weepu 11. Lomu 12. Nonu 13. Umaga 14. Milner Skudder 15. Cullen

That back line is hilariously good.

@Canes4life Very cool idea.
Here is my VERY quick stab at a Blues Polynesian team. I'm sure i'm missing heaps.
Obviously Nonu is a better player than Tuitupou but Tuitupou's 03/04 was probably better than any season Nonu played for the Blues.
Nearly squeezed Rieko in at 14 (also considered Rico Gear) and by the time Michael Jones was playing Super he was really a 6 but he's Michael Jones.
1 Olo Brown 2 Mealamu 3 Faumuina 4 Tuipulotu 5 Robin Brooke 6 Kaino 7 Michael Jones 8 Zinny 9 Tonu'u 10 Carlos 11 Lomu 12 Tuitupou 13 Mils 14 Toeava 15 Howlett

considering a guy as good as Joeli didn't even get mentioned the Blues have backs to burn

Yeah I went with Polynesian so didn't include those of Fijian descent (Caucau, Rok etc)

@Canes4life Great squad.
Heaps of great players to pick from and it kind of feels wrong not to have Victor Vito and Julian Savea in that squad.
I'd put Coy Jane at 14 instead of MNS. -
Chiefs for me would be:
Taumalolo
Hika Elliot
Laulala
Gibbs
Lock
Holah (I think he played for NZ Maori)
Messam
Lauaki (RIP big man!)
Tawera Kerr-Barlow
Cruden
Second Five
ALB
McKenzie
Lomu (RIP Big fella)
MilsI have a mind blank for another lock and a 2nd 5
-
Cruden for the canes over weepu for ten?

@Hooroo Charlie Ngatai or SBW at 12?
Who?
How embarrassing! Yeah either of those two would prolly get a start......

@Hooroo I'd take SBW, he was a key performer in the Chiefs title run.
Agreed!
Taumalolo
Hika Elliot
Laulala
Gibbs
Lock

Messam
Lauaki (RIP big man!)
Tawera Kerr-Barlow
Cruden
SBW

McKenzie
Lomu (RIP Big fella)
Mils -
so Lomu makes 3 teams...
-
Was Rupeni leftie? Fair enough to leave him out if the option is Jonah.
But I'm somewhat more in favour of Vidiri over Toeava ( @mariner4life ).
-
@KiwiMurph oh, and Olo Brown was THP.
LHP options off the top of my head only would be Manu, Ofa ...
-
i always have the impression that the Chiefs end up with the weakest looking team in all of these "all time" lists
