I don't see how the Test Championship is any more meaningful than the world rankings when you throw in those sorts of anomalies. By rights, it should be less meaningful than being world number one.
It's early days and might become more meaningful over time once the administrators get to grips with the anomalies. This is more likely to happen if we make the final and India doesn't, so we're doing everyone a favour if we can get there.
Since it's a thing we might as well be in to win!

When do we start to question Henry Nichols’ place in the side?
I don’t have the stats to back this up, but it seems he hasn’t scored any test runs for 12 months or so.
Maybe when Devon Conway becomes available?
I think you're right that Henry owes us some runs, but I think the jump from first class cricket to being in a team high in the test rankings is pretty huge, so I doubt he's under much threat.
I'm also inclined to think that a big part of our relative success in recent times has been deciding who our best players are and sticking with them regardless of the vagaries of form. Occasionally that has meant we've stuck with a few guys probably longer than we should have - perhaps Rutherford, Fulton, Santner - but, it's meant we've avoided rotating in a bunch of inferior players and destroying everyone's confidence.

Yep, hasn't scored a 50 in 12 months. He has had some time consuming innings though which I guess is a role. Would be nice to add some numbers to it though.

What replacement options do we have(real question)? He needs to feel pressure for his position, we can't afford to carry passengers

That tall fella is a handy batsman.

@canefan Right now, first cab off the rank is Mitch Jr.
Will Young is back playing some cricket, but I haven't watched how he's going and, as above, Conway will be available soon.
But, on the other hand, Rossco is having his 36th birthday later this week, so I doubt we should be thinking about discarding the guy who's been substantially groomed to take over the number 4 spot. Plus - Henry made decent runs in the ODIs vs India, so he's hopefully been finding ways to get out rather than suddenly become useless.
