Facebook - Time To Die?
-
Facebook works well if you take a small amount of time to feed it signals. Stuff you shared and mute for example.

Personally, I find it a great way to share kids photos with a very spread out family.

The messenger app is outstanding as well, and as they add their bots and AI it will only get better.

If you follow one simple rule for anything you post online, Facebook or email or whatever, then it's fine;

Treat everything you post as if it's public, and you wouldn't mind anybody reading it. -

Good strategy.

Also, in the vein of looking at all those dickheads posting "I hereby do not allow Facebook to own anything when that's what I signed up to", my belief is that if you want privacy (or security), get off the internet.

Another FB gripe is exclusively done by chicks, ie one will post 'Feeling really down today ( complete with ubiquitous sad face icon )'

Without fail there will be any number of comments ( again from women ) along the lines of 'aw what's up Hun?' 'Be strong baby, you'll be ok' 'hugzzzz' 'Hun, you are so amazing' and other vomit inducing posts. -

Attention seeking.

There is a lot to like about FB, while there is probably equally a lot I dont like about it....but as Kirwan says above, if you accept it for what it is, then its fine.

Shit really? Seems like he only just left.. I swear his visits are getting longer....

One thing that massively bugs me with Facebook is the rampant spread of stupid. I have a friend on there at the moment who has suddenly become a devotee to a retarded alternative health website and is constantly sharing their hot tips on keeping the family healthy..not too much of an issue until its now moved into area's claiming that 'Cancer' is just a fungus that can be treated with sodium bicarbonate...kind of getting the point of being dangerous to others. I could of course block stupid friend, but the thing is she isn't a bad person, she's just like many people just really really stupid. Blocking her would get here stupidity off of my radar but would do nothing to block the spread of her stupidity on to other mutual stupid friends whom although I might have a laugh about stupidity and natural selection, in reality I quite like a number of these people and would hate to see their health compromised by the spread of this stupidity. I can easily imagine a family trying to convince an older relative to get medical help for cancer but them insisting that all they needed was a few grams of salt shoved up their rectum daily. Not much you can do when your family is stupid but it doesn't stop you from caring for them.

-

that probably isn't exclusive to FB, the internet has allowed too many people to believe blogs they read written by some guy who had proper medicine but used an alternative and decided to only mention the alternative in his blog about getting better, and self diagnose themselves for all manner of ailments.

yeah but it's the direct spreading of the lies that Facebook does so well. Idiots don't need to go looking for their stupid fix, it is handed to them on a plate.

People like having their core beliefs reinforced & talking to people who agree with them.

FB lets them find shit that does so & share it.

They develop a group of friends who are all fucking idiots who share stuff that increases their level; of retardness & also makes them feel more certain in those beliefs. The "I've done the research!" thing. That research is 5 like minded retards shared some lunacy with me & 200 other arseclowns "liked" it. So its true.

It does always amaze me how people search for conspiracy shit on google, share it on FB, rant about something that isn't happening & does not affect them. And then miss the increasingly targeted advertising & other data mining.

Have you read anything about facebook and the last election in the Uk? Crosby Textor had a fair idea how irrelevant the likes the leftards were getting were probably based in part on our election. Soft likes and shy torys were the terms they used, if someone from the left shares something about labour promising to raise benefits for single mothers or some such policy people feel pressured to like it in case they feel like others would see them as selfish even if they don't like it or disagree with it. There was one story I read about some labour mps team saying they can't understand how she lost her seat because she has so many followers on twitter, ffs .
