The future of NZ Rugby

@Hooroo Knowing Wellington, there won't be an increase in the purchase of the product.
We don't even know what the product is. Back in the day the Hurricanes and Lions were really well supported.
I would say the hardest market to gain growth in again would be Auckland purely due to competition of competing sports and events

The current NPC structure is a jumbled mess created by trying to keep everybody happy, and in the end pleasing nobody. The whole comp is mainly based on nostalgia, but it will never be what it was, no matter how much people wish for it.
The whole NZ structure is screaming out for reform. Hopefully this time the NZRU actually sack up and do what it is best.
It seems like a lot of what was written there relies on Super Rugby continuing for the foreseeable future?

NZ rugby deserves a dreadful outcome. They got handed a great product and have tried to ruin every level of it outside of the All Blacks. This is the only organisation stupid enough to try to run two levels of provincial teams, and in a tiny country. When professionalism came, two of the top four teams were in the major population centre. They responded by putting a North Harbour's franchise in fucking Dunedin. It's almost like they are trying to go broke. Rugby is dead in Auckland now.
Fuck the NZRU. They're completely incompetent and deserve to go broke. It couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of provincial morons.

he doesn't mean the actual allocation of Harbour you fool. He means that there should have been two Auckland franchises. Instead they made two South Island franchises.

@Hooroo what a moronically pedantic point. Can you send an email to all the potential Sky subscribers on the Shore and let them know that the Harbour franchise actually went to Hamilton, and having a team in Dunedin was completely independent of that naming convention?

How come? I was just pointing out what happened at the time as Duluth always reminds me how "lucky" we are to have a franchise at Harbours expense.

They should also consider the number of staff employed at head office as some of them do seem somewhat superflous eg things like womans referees development officer (if one exists!) Come to think of it they should also consider the referees and TMO review committee staff as they seem to see things somewhat differently from the majority of us. They could use the money saved there in an attempt to get some of those officials they employ upskilled in things like detecting obvious forward passes etc (Aussie should do the same with George Ayoub)

@Tim said in The future of NZ Super Rugby teams & the NPC:
@Hooroo The internal politics of the decision have no effect on the market failure of not putting a team in Harbour but putting a team in Dunedin. It's completely irrelevant to viewers.
Not the Dunedin or Waikato viewers

I'd be furious if they canned the NPC .
You realise that doesn't matter right? What actually matters is implementation of a product(s) that aren't loss making. NPC died years ago despite a handful of passionate supporters.
I just hope that the decision they make is a good watch as I haven't watched NPC properly in ten years
Good for you, less so for those of us who prefer the NPC. Plus, it's reliant on them making a product that is profitable, and maybe no product can be successful and separate from the top down structure of NZ rugby.
With this and Oz rugby falling apart I guess I need to find a new sport to follow:
NRL - fucking useless Warriors, I hate origin, it's not the 90s anymore.
AFL - I just don't get aerial ping pong.
Wendyball - I made my decision not to follow it at age 5 so no reason to change that now.
V8's - Holden gone, car racing isn't a sport, and I don't even like cars anyway.
Netball -Hmmm, long legged ladies in skirts, could be a contender.
