Cricket: NZ vs Aus

@hydro11 Yeah - but, not enough difference between them these days that if Tim's really only got one decent spell in him that you'd go with him. Maybe if the ball was expected to really hoop around.
Tim looked pretty knackered to me in the latter stages in Melbourne - and it's not like Henry is an international rookie.
One good thing about this test is that we will find out a bit about our next tier of players - there's certainly a chance for some of them to make a statement, if they're good enough.

Phew, lucky it wasn't Wags' rostered test off.
The Southee omission gives another frown about this team management. Been a few frowns lately
Only increases the doubts about Stead's management
how he resurrects us mentally after this utter destruction will be the real test.
The only thing you can do is write it off as a lesson. Australia were excellent and showed our weaknesses. We are okay against most sides but Straya at home not so much

@canefan It's a curious situation because Stead must get fair praise for being in charge of beating the pakis at home and the world cup.
I suspect there's a few cooks spoiling this current broth
I'm not sure he provides Kane with sufficient guidance. At his worst he is a pretty ponderous captain, and his team choices (Mitch) lack
-
The Park Cricketer does what he does, and nicks out Burns, who must have just watched his career head to first slip.

Whoever signed us up for the opening fixture being a pink-ball test in Perth probably shouldn't be left in charge of the the scones in the oven!
This is the crux for me. I don't know about the negotiations but if we go back we need a few warm up innings on Aus pitches.
Overall our preparation and batting strategies have been second rate

That was a really 50/50 scenario. If we got the best of the conditions it could have worked in our favour, but as it turned out Aus got the best and more than made the most of them. That seemed to really knock our confidence, which is where Stead needed to step up but the whole gameplan in the 2nd test right from the toss indicated we were not in a good head space. Aus were again ruthless as you'd expect them to be against a team lacking confidence.
The Hess/Baz combo worked well as they complimented each other. Stead/Kane I think we are lacking the confidence and positive/aggressive mindset that Baz brought to the table.

That stupid fucking leave of Louboutin's is cringy and spastic.

I expect it's David White's doing

great. 2 eccentric spastics on one team. Both scoring fuckloads of runs so we get to see them later.
Throw in the angry dwarf, and i am warming right in to hating the Aussies again.
Where's @Virgil to really fuel the fires?

The problem with playing warm-up matches in Oz is that they're not going to (and would be stupid to) give us practice against the Starc/Cummins/Hazelwood's that we're going to face in the tests. And they probably won't give us pitches that will replicate Perth.
In theory, warming up against Archer should have been decent preparation, but we played that series on pudding pitches - nothing like we've seen in Oz.
That said - our preparation has been nearly as shit as it was for the CWC - we got away with it there, we didn't here.

@Chris-B all that maybe true, but there's no way we should play a test upon arrival in Australia without a couple of days play in local conditions.
Not a cure-all but a contributing factor to this train wreck tour, plus a lack of patience and attrition batting plans on pitches where big innings are full of leaving and then cashing in after 2 hours at the crease.
-
@Siam Yeah - a warm up game probably wouldn't have done too much harm, but I think I recall last time we toured Oz our warm up game was some bizarre offering where Finch and someone racked up 500 without loss on Day 1 and then the game was called off without a ball being bowled on Day 2 because the pitch was dangerous - but, maybe I'm getting two games confused.
I think NQ is pretty right that that first innings batting in Perth under lights scarred us quite badly. Tbh even from my couch it looked genuinely frightening when Kane and Ross were batting and getting hit by thunderbolts.
