    I love ALB but if Savea doesn't win AB of the year, it is a travesty

    @Hooroo Same with Brad Weber, but Ardie should also win the Super Rugby player of the year.

    Although it wouldn't shock me to see Weber win it given the improvement in his game

    I will be guttered if Ardie doesn't win. 😉

    NZ rugby loves Gareth Evans aye. I don't even think he was the best performing Magpie this year.

    @Nepia Duane Monkley Medal points are awarded after each game by the commentators. NZ Rugby had nothing to do with it. I think Ash Dixon was our best player this year.

    I was meaning NZ rugby in general not NZR specifically. I agree on Dixon and would have Toala and the lock whose name escapes me ahead of Evans.

    I'm surprised that no Ta$man player makes the Duane Monkley Medal shortlist. Their players must have shared the points.

    @Machpants I'm surprised David Havili didn't even get a nomination. Probably the most (consistently) high performing back this year.

    And, nerd that I am, I hate it that they spell players' name incorrectly, especially on something that is meant to be an official announcement.

    @Stargazer No Ta$man player even got a nomination. Havili and Ethan Blackadder both would have been very deserving.

    Crikey! Next thing you know you won't get a shield challenge next year!

    That's already a near certainty! 🙂

    Champions and undefeated, but no-one gets nominated!

    At least Tone Ng Shui won for the Sevens

    (We're the Champions at that as well!). 🙂

    @Stargazer Not any more! 🙂

    Since you're a bit of a fan of David - here's a nice story for you. Although he's credited to Nelson College as an AB, he originally went to Motueka High School (his family is from Motueka).

    My cousin's daughter plays rugby for MHS and this year David was the Guest of Honour at their rugby prize giving. Apparently he gave one of his AB jerseys to Motueka HS - which is pretty cool given he's presumably only got five of them.
