The Spurs are finally dead. A 22-year playoff run should come to an end this season. The team stinks.
i just read this, if it is true, it just highlights how absolutely fucked we are in the modern NBA
"Ben Simmons has made more 3 pointers this year than DeMar DeRozan"
it's true! holy shit
-
@mariner4life for all his brilliance as a coach, Pop has to take a lot of responsibility for this. It is pretty arrogant to refuse to move with the times. I hate the modern NBA's obsession with 3's more than anyone, but you can't ignore it.
-
@mariner4life Simmons next 3pter is due in the 2021-22 season.

I really dislike Simmons. The Melbourne affair, the Boomers stuff. Seems like a tit to me
he's also massively over-hyped if you live in Aus

look, i am loath to say a bad word against the great man, but this is pretty true. I sort of expect this to be his last year.

@mariner4life did you ever watch the conversation between Pop, Manu, Parker and Duncan sitting at halfcourt? Such good insight into their dynamic and relationship.

I know there are plenty of LeBron haters out there, but I always wonder what his career would have looked like if he had a great coach early. Look at most of the top guys of all time and who they had:
- MJ = Phil
- Magic/Kareem = Riley
- Russell - Red
- Kobe/Shaq = Phil
- TD = Pop
- Bird = had a few, but had Red on the staff as an exec
Aside from Spo, and that was late, Lebron never had anyone with gravitas.
-
If you like stats LeBron became the first player in league history to log a triple-double against all 30 NBA teams vs OKC on Wed. I'm not sure how many teams Russ has a triple-double against but obviously he hasn't against the Thunder - yet.
Edit: Westbrook is only missing OKC for the full set.
-
Poor finish from the Rockets. They thought they had it won with a minute to go but fell asleep against a Clippers side who are lethal from the 3 point line (like the Rockets).

@African-Monkey plus a Rusty pull-up 26 footer is hardly your best option for a game winner. I love his intensity, and I think he seems like a great guy off the court (charity and stuff). But he genuinely has zero shame on the court. He's 1-6 for 3 and 22% for the year. And he has Harden on his team. But sure, jack that game winner bro.
-
@Bovidae oh they're dead man. Houston were a debacle tonight. Rusty shot 7-30 (!!!) and Harden was 11-38 . A combined 5-36 for 3.
Wow
While Rusty might be making a habit of this, I think it's an aberration for Harden (reg season only)
The NBA is so shit right now. So many good players, so much shit basketball.
-
@Bovidae yeah, what annoys me is people relating stats now to 10/15/20 + years ago.
It's just so different
As you say, D is optional. Add to that the realisation that the 3 is a weapon, the pace of the game, the different rules (illegal D, zones, hand checking etc).
Stats have become incomparable. Like, MJ could actually shoot. Imagine he had a licence to shoot 6-8+ 3's per game (he never took more than 3.6pg) and he managed c. 35-38% of them (not inconceivable given his career ave)? Imagine what that additional threat would have added to his rim attacking?
It's just a different game now.
