    This is fascinating.

In my mind we have got away with murder with some of the wide calls

Ross Taylor could have cost us this match with his bad running.

The umpire was generous but consistent with the new interpretations

So NZ bay first in what is now an E11.

    Make 146.

England need 2.22 runs per ball.

So we tied then lost the O1.

Bit reminiscent of the CWC Final.

We had the foot on the throat several times in regulation and let them back in. Pretty disappointing.

Santner had a great series with the ball - player of the series for us.

Conversely, his spin partner Ish was disappointing - mainly got smoked.

Think we missed Ferguson in the last two games. Might have been the man for the super over.

Unless there's strong evidence that the pitch is going to turn, I hope they seriously consider playing Ferguson in the tests and not playing a spinner.

Can you fill me in? I’m not up to speed with the new interpretations.

Is it no longer wide if going down leg and batsman stays in normal position?

Don't think they would have used Ferg for a super over at Eden park. Every edge or flick will be 6 or 4 even the slower ball probably. Agree they missed him and yeah should be considered for the tests.

Yip. But the wide moves with the batsmen now. So if he moves slightly to off and it just goes down leg often it is not callef

Was an issue today where Boult bowled inside of the offside crease guide line and, presumably, the batsman had moved sufficiently leg side for a ball bowled inside the marker to be called wide.

Might have been an umpire mistake but we can't have balls inside the off marker being wided because of batsman moving

The two overs where Ish went for 3 sixes ina row, after Kuggelijn got pumped cost us the game I reckon. 40 off two overs let them back in and surrendered the momentum nicely.

Also, Boult missed a straightforward runout, and that was super frustrating.

Then it was just down to two big sixes in the super over - they could, we couldn't. Good game. Shout out to the ground; had no expectation of play when it chucked it down all morning and early afternoon

@nzzp speaking of big overs, and not sure if mentioned, did anyone else see Kiwi Sophie Devine hit 5 consecutive 6’s off the final over of the WBBL game today? On her way to a match winning 85no.

I'm a bit surprised to see Astle and Santner as the spinners and both Patel and Somerville not.

Hope they think long and hard about playing without a spinner in NZ. Seems like a long time since any NZ spinner took a bag of wickets at home.

Wags kind of fills a spinners role in NZ - bowls heaps of overs without tiring and with an old ball. The difference is he can actually take wickets too.

If they don't have a "specialist" spinner then - Southee, Boult, Wags, Ferg, CDG? Kane to roll a few over if need be (he seems to get more turn than the other spinners anyway). Probably weakens the batting a bit without Santner but he really isn't a threat with the red ball.
