NFL 2015

Bills need to beat Jets on Thursday. I realize it's only midpoint of the season, but this game has enormous playoff implications. With Roethlisberger out and so many AFC teams currently sitting with awful records, the race is wide open and Bills at 4-4 actually have a shot at a wild card.

As an aside: since Hayne got dropped, Channel 7 here are no longer playing 49ers games by the looks of it.

IT appears to be a case of no Jarryd Hayne, no San Francisco 49ers on Channel 7 for the remainder of the NFL season.

The network had been screening every 49ers game this season (apart from the Friday and Tuesday games owned by ESPN) but instead chose to show the Denver Broncos trip to play the Indianapolis Colts in the 8.25am timeslot on Monday morning (AEDT).

San Francisco has been pretty hard to watch this season with or without the Aussie rugby league convert, so it was no great surprise Seven opted for Peyton Manning’s visit to the city he became an NFL legend.

The decision was justified as the Broncos and Colts game went down to the wire, but the 49ers also produced a surprisingly entertaining win against the Atlanta Falcons at Levi’s Stadium.

Back-up quarterback Blaine Gabbert — who replaced Colin Kaepernick this week — produced enough on offence in the first half for the Niners defence to hang on for a 17-16 win.
-

Gabbert did a nice job - he looked good in preseason and continued that on - it's not inconceivable he could be another Alex Smith style starter for the 49ers - good enough to win with - a former top 10 pick who got thrown to the wolves for a terrible organisation - there might be something to work with there. The next two games v Seattle and Arizona will be a great litmus test of if Gabbert is worth sticking with beyond this season as a possible starter. At the very least the 49ers are getting some of their younger players some good game time (Ellington, Patton, Tartt, Ward, D Johnson etc).

-

Peyton Manning became the all-time leading passer in the NFL, and then went 5-20, 35 yards, 4 INTs in a 29-13 loss to the Chiefs. If you're a Denver fan, the window appears to have finally shut on championship aspirations.

The last two games of the day were good - New England still undefeated after pipping Eli Manning's Giants 27-26 and Arizona have taken control of the NFC West from Seattle with a 39-32 win.
-

Kaepernick's time with the 49ers looks to be over - he has been placed on Injured Reserve so won't play anymore this season - is having surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. As long as he can pass a physical on April 1, the 49ers can release him and not get stuck with the salary cap hit next season (of around 15 mil I think).

Looks like Gabbert gets 7 more games to start and then they'll probably draft a rookie in the high rounds in next year's draft and go from there.

You wonder if the Eagles might look at signing Kap in the offseason - Chip Kelly has done pretty well with Bradford and Foles and with his offensive creativity could probably get the best out of Kap.
-

In his time with Harbaugh he showed what he is capable of. I reckon Kap in Chip Kelly's QB friendly offense would be something to see. The 49ers are back into purgatory after a brief spell back in the spotlight
-

Sounds the most obvious destination - with the lack of capable QBs in the NFL I can see the 49ers trading CKap to Philly in return for a pick and either Bradford or Sanchez. Anyone been following the potential QBs for next year's draft? Connor Cook, Kevin Hogan and Cardale Jones come to mind.
-

From the recent ones I've seen it's guys like Paxton Lynch (Memphis), Jared Goff (Cal), neither of which I've seen play, and Connor Cook. I'd completely write off Cardale Jones as a first rounder from what I've seen. Even in the playoff run last year he seemed the right guy in the right place who might get exposed once teams got a better look at him. From what I've read that's pretty much what happened and he isn't an early round pick anywhere I've seen.

With Hogan he's spent a career behind a really good offensive line and running game so if he hasn't really stood out as Heisman candidate with those advantages have to wonder if he has the ability to be a first rounder.
-

Haven't even heard of the guy from Memphis who is ranked number one. Means it will be another weak QB pool. If 49ers are smart they'll fire the GM and coach and get CKap someone who can coach him up again. But I think we'll end up with someone like Connor Cook or acquire a bunch of failed QBs and hope one of them resurrects his career (Gabbert, Ponder, RGIII, Bradford etc etc).

we're not dead yet motherfuckers!

I was kinda hoping that the Pats would remain undefeated and lose in the Superbowl again. :)

What were the odds on the Carolina Panthers being the only undefeated team in week 12? They've got some tough division games to come so I expect they will drop at least 1 game, if not 2.
-

Carolina remains undefeated after winning a shoot-out in New Orleans. Meanwhile the Patriots lose again, at home, to the Eagles.

And for you 49ers fans, a win!

I think most people laughed at Harbaugh and co when they happily took on Gabbert for a 6th round pick. As it turns out it was a fairly smart move getting quite a useful backup at the very least.
-

just saw the highlights, a good running touchdown (kid has wheels) and then a bomb to win in overtime.

I watched a bit of College football over the weekend. God College football is awesome, it's just all offense. Clemson v North Carolina yesterday, especially in the 2nd half, felt like every possession ended in a touchdown. Clemson won, to remain the #1 ranked team in the country, but NC were short-changed with a final penalty on a short kick-off they actually recovered, but were incorrectly called offside.

Could you imagine this place if finals places were decided by committee?
-
The atmosphere at those big college games are something else too.

Gotta love the blue field of Boise State -

yea, the huge crowds, the big bands, it sounds great on TV.
