I'm slightly wary of sponsorship at this stage
Good position to have. A sponsor might conflict with a team/competition sponsor which would just add another set of hurdles to get over
Have you had any luck reaching out to people in the media?
No real joy as yet.
I will be honest and say that as a busy fulla with a young family it is very much a side gig but one I am obviously hugely passionate (and a little protective) about.
Want to try and keep the concept clean but there is so much good content in the history and also in the story of why it would help our game /the journey so far to recognition.
Would be a big feather in the cap of any organisation who truly championed it when it gets recognised (and it will, I am a patient man!)
If anyone has any contacts or introduction I would be very keen and happy to make myself available on a pretty flexible basis to have a chat and go through it.

Really need to hit a critical mass to make it successful and that will be through a mixture of platforms.
You may find that a kickstarter drives engagement too. Depending on how much you're talking, it could mobilise a bunch of people and raise the profile significnatly
Totally agree, it is just about having enough to get it started. Ideally I always figured I would time it with a NH tour season as maximum teams are playing and the shield generally changes hands so you have enough active content to plan the messaging around.
That way your time limit for the campaign is aligned to the month or two where rugby is a talking point globally.
For instance it would be good in 2020 as there is the recent narrative of this being a line from both the first game of rugby but also the recent Rugby World Champs whoever that may be. Plus you are far enough from the next rugby world cup that people are keen on something to fill that void.
Plenty of time to build up that narrative ahead of it too.

It's also funny as it has been over ten years now I have been plugging away, always as a very much back burner piece.
What is really nice is I have had a few times now where people have mentioned the shield to me not knowing i actually do everything for it in the background.
It is actually pretty cool when i look at how many people have or are engaged with the idea.
Always wish i could give it more time but will keep up the effort and we will eventually get there.
It will be an emotional day when i see it lifted for real (that will happen eventually!)

I couldn't find it on the website but is there a tally of total matches held for? Stats nerd here
It has been played for in 648 matches and won by a new holder 201 times (that only includes the first win in any holders run)
It is on the awesome pick and go website which is stat heaven.
So many ways you can cut it, I love it!
-
@Davesofthunder Have you had any discussions with WR about making it 'official'?

If one of the knock matches that has a Raeburn involved, is a draw after 80 mins, does the holder keep it??
It hasn't actually happened in a final yet as both RSA and England held the shield when they went into those matches.
However, extra time means you have a winner of that match so it is no longer and draw and the winning team would take the shield.
In normal matches with no extra time to find a winner the holder keeps the shield in the event if a draw.
I'm being pedantic sorry. Purely out of curiosity. If draw after extra time?

@Hooroo Think he mentioned that a draw is holder keeps it. Same as Ranfurly.
don't mention that!! @Chris-B will appear to bore us all with how Ta$man never get to challenge for the Raeburn either

Well, not to disappoint you - the fucking rules actively rule that out!
From September 8, 2019 Teams are not permitted to play non-Tournament Matches but are allowed to conduct opposed training sessions.

NZR changed the rules to allow your Invitational XV to compete in the NPC so maybe @Davesofthunder will make the same allowance?
