South Africa and Japan only met once before in RWC, but it was recent. A classic. I think SAF should do this comfortably, but you never know, Japan play smart and accurate.

if Japan can weather the initial onslaught SA always throw, or even score early, it will be game on.

That said, I think SA will eventually over run Japan...although, I thought the win over the Irish was going to be Japans big game and they'd stumble after, so what do I know! 🤷♂

I think Japan have had their final. I just can't see SAF losing this unless they are down to 13 men. SAF have not forgotten their previous loss to Japan and you can imagine that will also be talked about in the build up. All opinion of course and would love to see Japan take it to them, but Im picking margin of about 14 points

Pool stages over, time for a knocked out XV? Nah, a Tier 2 XV.

    15 Veaino
14 Radradra (christ, I'm leaving out Matushima!)
    13
    12 Botia
11 Fukuoka (missed first few games, but bumps Tuisova from my team)
    10 Berchesi
9 Nagare (I also like Uruguay starting 9 and Stephens from Namibia and de Haas from USA)
    8 Yato
    7 TJ Ioane
    6 Himeno
    5 Laupepe
    4 Lindekar ?
3 Halonuknuka (Woo from Japan close)
    2 Horie
1 Yamashita (Mulipola from Samoa was good

    Not sure on my 13.

Nakarawa probably the flop of the tournament. Also Georgian pack and their halfbacks.

Japan in the quarters is awesome, and not just scraping in they did it with style (they're the only unbeaten team aside from Wales 😉 ). This was a team that had 145 points piled on them at one stage.

So many good matches from the minnows (Samoa aside, WTF happened there).

I will believe the commentators from the RWC team over some bogan from Northland thank you very much. (TBF, bogan is probably redundant with Northland already in that sentence).

having looked at the footage of what that Typhoon did, and reading about the deaths and injuries, i feel like a complete dick for any thoughts i had about contingency plans. My absolute bad. Go well with the clean up Japan. And well done on getting anything happening yesterday, it's pretty incredible really.

I wonder how the SRU feel?

I'm so glad I remained completely calm during the cancellation decisions, I recognised all the many factors at play, comprehended that I had no first hand knowledge about any of them, and I totally resisted any criticisms of those involved and conducted myself in a fair and flawless manner throughout.

Well, that's how I remember it.

Going to be controversial here and suggest at least one quarter final will be determined by a card.

There'll be a ref in the middle like a rabbit in the headlights pleading with the TMO and his linesmen to agree with his decision. They will of course be mute.

    @antipodean

I’m wondering how well I’ll take it if it’s the ABs that get sawn off.

We have wine /watching events both days and I’m wondering whether I should actually go or not on Saturday.

Most of those people think I’m a relatively mild mannered bloke....

I hope not. But it is entirely possible. They could all take a leaf out of BOK's book last night. He didn't get everything right (had fark all help from his ARs) but he ruled sensibly and didn't decide the game with an ill-advised decision

I'll be furious, but not like I was in 2007. Winning back to back has mellowed me somewhat. I still get nervous but I can enjoy the RWC these days. I'm convinced if we do three in a row, the RWC will be ruined.

Got a whole lot of excellent rugby coming up (fingers crossed no howler decisions) Legit all those games could go either way.

All previous winners and runners up of the Cup are in the top 8. Stoked for Japan to make it.

yeah I have wondered if this is the best thing for the comp...but I'd prefer we find that us winning has had no detrimental effect on anything than us losing and that having no detrimental effect 🙂

I'd rather the RWC be ruined than the other option.

nah fuck that. If we can beat Ireland, England, and Wales/SA in 3 weeks, then it's deserved.

Not ruined for us, ruined for everyone else. There'll be calls to change it: It doesn't mean anything. Proper comps have history where you have to play everyone once etc.
