RWC: Japan v Samoa (Pool A)

@akan004 Why would it be ideal for us to face Japan? The tournament hosts with all the momentum going into the finals? Ireland clearly didn't take them seriously, so as an All Black fan, I'm totally taking them seriously.
We will destroy Japan, as will the Boks if they play Japan. They are simply not in the same league. We will beat Scotland too but I think it will be easier against Japan. Ireland I am still very worried about and hope we can avoid them.

Bring on Ireland.

Good effort from the Manu but their exits let them down as well as the Ioane YC. Kane Leaupepe continues to impress me and is a great pick up for the Canes.
Japan getting great value off their bench which allows them to play with this fast tempo for the full 80. Nakajima has been very good in the last couple of games, as has emeki and Matsushima.

I'd much rather the ABs play Japan in the QFs and put Ireland on the other side of the draw. Ireland-SA would be a fascinating game to watch.
Yeah. It would be such a travesty if the Boks get the easy route and avoid Ireland after losing their game against us.

Why? Ireland got exposed by Japan, so why should they be rewarded with a top spot in their pool?

Yeah cos Japan could never beat the Boks....
They will lose badly.

Sure Ireland and the Boks would be fascinating but I see the Boks giving them a hiding if they play them. But I think we will play them after Japan scrapes a close one against Scotland.
To tell you the truth the team that I least want to play in this tournament are the Wallabies. I think they have the scoring game that can put scoreboard pressure on us. Something we haven’t dealt with as well. And plus they don’t even study our gameplan....

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. This is the nature of tournament pool play. It doesn’t always go the way it is predicted.
For what it’s worth as it stands Ireland is an easier game than Japan.
Ireland don’t bring the breakdown discipline or intensity at the tackle that Japan do.

Ireland haven't brought that so far but they are more than capable of doing that. They did that in Dublin and we had no answers.

Agreed. Japan we will beat if for no other reason than we're not a team that loses to tier two teams - it's bad enough we lost to Ireland at their height.
Let Ireland and South Africa beat each other up.

We're on a more accurate and level playing field. We've also got a better understanding of how we want to play against the threat they pose. I also doubt they'll take their opportunity while we stuff ours. Play that fixture another 90 times and I'd expect us to win a tight one.

So, for Ireland to top the pool, they must beat Samoa and Japan must lose to Scotland.
I think both will happen
Scotland will lose. They are a tier 2 country in tier 1 clothing. I don’t understand why people think they will beat japan. They have a rubbish pack and 2 good backs.
The funniest result though would be Samoa beating Ireland and Scotland beating japan. Japan and Scotland go through.

Heard a rumour on a podcast about Jamie Joseph being in the running to coach Australia.
Heard a rumour Jamie Joseph’s citizenship might be revoked.
No kiwi should ever coach Aussie.

Scotland have a 4 day turnaround before Japan. I think japan go through undefeated in the pool - and well done them.
Ireland did well against us last time, but our offense didn't fire at all. If we only score 9 against them this time, we deserve to lose.
-
So, in this pool, the current standings are :
1 - Japan (14 pts)
2 - Ireland (11 pts)
3 - Scotland (5 pts)I guess Ireland will beat Samoa with a bonus point : they will probably finish with 16 points (15 if they cannot score 4 tries or more).
Scotland will defeat Russia and earn a bonus point : they will have 10 points before their match against Japan.Possible scenarii :
Japan beat Scotland (with or without bonus point) : they finish first and Ireland second.
Japan draw with Scotland with no bonus points earned. They finish with 16 points and first because of their win over Ireland. Scotland are eliminated. If they get a bonus point, they finish first with 17 points.
Scotland win against Japan with a bonus point for 4 tries. They finish second and Japan are out of their World Cup if they get no bonus point or one bonus point. Japan finish first if they get two bonus points, Ireland second and Scotland third.
Scotland win against Japan with no bonus point. They finish second and Japan are eliminated. Scotland win against Japan with no bonus point but with Japan getting a bonus point for a deafeat by less than 7 points, Scotland are eliminated and Japan finish second with 15 points behind Ireland. So Carbery's decision to kick into touch at the hooter was not so dumb. He thus preserved a bonus point which keeps Ireland out of an elimination.
However, Ireland are in possible trouble if they do not get a win with a bonus point against Samoa. -
