Fascinating “scandal” in the U.S. with news that last years’ Triple Crown winner JUSTIFY blew positive for a banned substance after the Santa Anita Derby and an alleged cover-up by California racing admin before the horse ran in the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs (Kentucky Derby track) officials have made statement to the effect that the horse was tested after the Derby and no traces of performance-enhancers. It looks especially bad for trainer Bob Baffert — America’s top trainer, and one of the most famous in the world — who claims the sample was due to contaminated food (?). I’ll have to do some more reading into what happened...

    [...]

“All possible tests and procedures and investigations were followed by the CHRB Equine Medical Director and senior staff, which led to the overwhelming evidence that Justify, along with six other horses in four different barns at Santa Anita, ingested scopolamine from jimsonweed which was present in the hay that had been delivered to the barns,” the statement read.

Winner: CHRB followed protocols in scopolamine positives for Justify, six others

The California Horse Racing Board followed all of its procedures when adjudicating cases last year involving the eventual Triple Crown winner Justify and six other horses that tested positive for a regulated substance, the board’s chairman at the time, Chuck Winner, said in a statement released on...

Sorry gents, very busy week, but I can report that Some Do got the job done tonight at Alexandra Park. You didn't miss much in terms of a dividend as she only paid $1.90-$2.00 or so. Change of tactics over the mile, with Scott Phelan pushing her to the lead instead of going back from the draw. She got taken on 800m out, but kicked nicely to win by half a length in 1.57.5 or so for the mile.

Some Do backs up this Friday in Race 1 (5.44pm) at Alex Park - up a bit in grade (now in a R53-70 fillies and mares field, but has drawn well due to the preferential barrier draw system, and can run a place provided she gets a bit of cover.

Spur To Action resumes at Invercargill (Ascot Park) in R5 (2.52pm) on Saturday. She's also up in grade, but she won a trial a couple of weeks back & should be an each way chance from barrier 2 against a middling bunch of trotters, albeit some are in form.

I will let him fill you in though. Looks as though they had a super day on the punt

    Awesome! Saturday was pretty grouse!

Had the harrovian at cairns as one of my multis last legs. One of the most trouble free last legs I've ever had!

How goood is this spring racing though? The boilover with Gatting winning was awesome and so good to see Bivouac answer back and smash exceedence after last time.

The Shorts this weekend looks to be an exceptional sprint race. Cant wait

    Fuck what a weekend

Lunch on Thursday was great. Felt tamer than previous years, but still a bloody good afternoon. Arrived home in slightly better order than usual.

Friday races were great. Weather was perfect. Punt didn't go great as the favourites kept winning. I think I nabbed 3 out of 7, but at shit prices. Great day on the piss though.

Saturday was even better. Big crowd, weather again to the party. Got there at gates opening to get the same table as Friday. Punt went great. Some good racing. A magic day. Out for dinner that night, in to the wine and whiskey. Took until this morning to recover.

Highlight of the weekend was The Harrovian sweeping the cups. That horse is too good for Cairns. By the time they went past the finishing post the first time the race was over. Cruised home. Threw a bit on it, so was nice not to stress.

Poor old Mulligans just isn't a race horse. Jumped alright, jockey rode her well and put her in a good spot, but when it came to crack on she had nothing. She'll run at Atherton this weekend only because we're paying for the training any way. But then she'll find a new job.

@Hooroo thoughts on RickyBaker today mate? I see took the option of the BM72 later in the card rather than the bm65 race 2 was also accepted for?

Soft track should suit but looks pretty tough little race

We were always targeting this race but then were number 5 on the ballot.

His gallops have been good leading up to this and he is full of himself much to the detriment of my arm which he nearly wrenched out of it's socket!!

Didn't pan out for her at all as she had to sit parked for the first 1400m of the 2200m race. She then got pushed out by the eventual winner 400m out so made her run 3-wide.

Yet she was still running on strongly for 2nd in a very quickly run race. We won't get too carried away just yet but she might be pretty good.

    Vid is here:

This could be costly for the TAB??

Place a pre-match To Score a Try bet of $30 or more through your account on a Rugby World Cup match and get a $5 Bonus Bet for every try scored in the match!

PArticularly in the Eng v Tonga game and the Italy Namibia games?

    I went with Tuilagi @ $1.79...
