Highlanders 2020

So the Highlanders now have McKay, Garden-Bachop, Collins, Gregory, Punivai, Nareki and Koroi in their back three arsenal. That must be their outside spots all wrapped up now surely.

Gregory and Koroi are with the NZ 7s side next year

@98blueandgold there’s a general consensus up here in the North that Gregory is being played out of position at fullback ,midfield to me looks a better option ,he has some talent no question but has got to get consistency into his game ..chatting to him last night at ground level he’s definitely a solid unit, looks around 95kgs 1.86
Heard the Highlanders are in chats with Northland lock/6 Temo Mayanavanua..he was in the Blues Development Team this year ,very sizeable unit ..120 Kgs 1.96 .former Fiji under 20 captain 2 x years ago , will be 22 in November..more of a traditional NZ style of forward and is very coachable.
Was really good against Hawkes Bay ,and superb off the bench against Manawatu, added some much need physicality and go forward..spoke to Temo last night, has a deep cut on his calf but should be back for the Wellington game. -
@pukunui it’s probably odds on that Collins will thrive at the Highlanders because that’s usually what happens when someone leaves the Blues..he is capable footballer ,I actually thought his game against the touring Lions back in 2017 ironically was probably his best game in a Blues jersey..
Just lacks a yard of pace to be a modern fullback
Met the guy couple of times, came across as a really good bloke. -
@Steven-Harris He can't even thrive at NPC level with Otago. He's very lucky to have a Super contract.
-
@Dice the most most glorious thing about people who are coaches it’s all in the eye of the beholder...have watched people who have coached the Blues and recruited for the Blues for over 15 years and there’s been plethora of screw up selections ,all I am saying under a different environment, it’s odds on he will probably thrive..
Some of the criticism he received from people on this thread when at the Blues was probably justified, but there was also a good part I thought at times way over the top..and yet others who got a free pass...why does that happen..? -
You criticised Nanai more than Collins
-
@Duluth found him a frustrating player simply because he had no kicking game and did not look to link , first instinct was run, his last year was probably his best year, no question he’s a talent footwork and pace..
There’s one thing giving constructive criticism, there’s another thing reading coms that a player can just F...O..or F....g useless..

You have been very over the top with your criticism of certain players. Which is fine..

hey let’s agree to disagree and leave it at that
Well thats pretty much my point
You get upset when players you like get criticised. You are no angel when handing out the criticism

I was just about to mention this. Always quick to have a go at Nanai, even when he has a decent game, but usually silent when Collins is stinking up the joint.
Nanai wasn't the perfect fullback, but he was the best we had. His positives easily outweighed his negatives, especially in comparison to Collins.

@Dice that’s your opinion ,the super rugby coaches for the Highlanders obviously differ.
Or it is a case of no other options.
-
@Stargazer Caleb is going well, I thinks it’s only a matter of time before he picks up a contract..
-
@Steven-Harris I was hoping the Chiefs or Highlanders would have a spot for him for 2020.
