Otago v Manawatu (Ranfurly Shield)

@African-Monkey just the ones that get talked up ...and there’s been a few that’s failed to deliver when it’s counted
-
Manawatu just don't know how to score points, lowests points for of all teams coming into this game

If only Tuipulotu had delivered when it counted recently....

Flattering score line to Otago..really impressed with the Turbos given there start to the season ..They showed a ton of heart..but couldn’t catch a break from the official..!
-
@KiwiMurph the All Blacks were always going to deliver given the backlash ..it’s just the consistency that been bought into question .i personally think he’s very fortunate regardless of how he performed in the Bledisloe return..If Retallick had been fully fit..I doubt very much he would be heading to Japan..
I make no apologies, I am Hemapo fan, and that’s simply because he delivers in most games no what the stage.. -
@Steven-Harris Is it a crime to talk up Auckland players? Do you show the same animosity when players from other provinces get talked up? Aren't you also a Blues fan with Auckland as your 2nd favourite team? Not having a go as everyone is entitled to their opinion but but it's just a strange way of thinking but I'm sure you have your reasons.
Anyway, thought Manawatu were a real chance tonight but as was pointed out, they were lacking a bit out wide. Southland could have a real shot at breaking their losing streak when they eventually meet.

How good has Hemapo been..?, no disrespect, but Patrick Tuipulotu would not have half the engine or the heart that Hemapo has ..
Patrick Tuipulotu's engine and heart had nothing wrong with them at Eden Park for a recent "Do or Die" Bledisloe Cup game.
That said, Jackson Hemopo is a very good player indeed. 5th best lock in New Zealand (daylight after him), bit smaller & less experienced than the other options ahead of him.

@African-Monkey Auckland are my 2nd favourite team, but it’s fair to say they’re have been players that have had all the physical attributes not to mention a ton smoke blown up they backsides but have failed to deliver that potential.
And it’s always someone else’s fault, they have not been managed properly or the diet was wrong or they are playing with a team that’s not firing..
I look at players that are able to deliver even if they are in a team that struggles -
I'm with @Steven-Harris Hemopo should be at the cup instead of Red Barrett
-
When he came on for the ABs Hemopo really looked the goods. Then they gave all the opportunities to other "projects"...bit confusing when we were looking for a big bruising 6 with a big engine. But anyone who thinks Barrett shouldn't be the third lock needs their head read.

There was good news for the Manawatū Turbos following their abortive Ranfurly Shield challenge against Otago. All Black Ngani Laumape will join them on Monday, hopefully to resume hostilities against Northland on Thursday, as maybe will centre Rob Thompson. Manawatū coach Peter Russell had given Laumape leave to have personal space with his family after the trauma of missing the World Cup squad.
Not so good news: All Black lock Jackson Hemopo played probably his last game for the Turbos in Dunedin on Friday night. After playing in pain, he is to have remedial work on his troubled left shoulder before joining Mitsubishi in Japan.
Then comes the worst news: The referee who incensed Turbos fans province-wide on Friday, Glen Jackson, instead of being relegated, will also control the match next Thursday ...
Oh come on, it's hometown! Hometown! The Turbos play at home on Thursday!
Disappointing news about Hemopo.
Oh, and they should have called this article an opinion piece, not analysis.

Trauma? FFS
A week of sulking isn’t what we want from a guy who has a high chance of playing in the RWC as an injury replacement. Not good news about Hemopo. I wonder if this injury was one of the reasons he didn’t get many chances in Black. I wonder who the next lock in line is if someone is injured out of the RWC.
