Some piece of writing this from Greg Baum:

    Greg Baum  /  Aug 25, 2019  /  Cricket

We can all die happy now – cricket doesn't get any better than this

We can all die happy now – cricket doesn't get any better than this

The World Cup is a distant memory – and now only Ben Stokes’ second-greatest exploit.

    Wow. Ain't test cricket grand.

Best result for the sake of the series. Every session is vital now and we know what both teams are capable of, good and bad.

What I am interested in is how Steve Smith will perform after that knock to the head. He's either of incredible mental strength and it won't both him or it will create hesitation and he will become easier to get out.

    Probably the former

That will go down as one of the greatest test matches - magnificent performance by Stokes especially.

Apparently, even near the end of the game, tactical reviews are still risky.

They still should have won it. They couldn't solve Stokes or get all his partners out. I thought the quick bowlers bowled bad lines in the closing stages, Stokes' partners barely had to play the ball

    Pressure and fatigue.

Stokes hitting had fielders jumping on the rope. Paine was adjusting the field what seemed like every few deliveries.

The poor review decision, the fumble on the run out, the fact there was even a run out chance in that situation, the poor length balls to Leach, the sometimes reckless playing by Stokes on balls that just needed blocking - it was drama writ large and the pressure on both sides was evident.

For me the fact that England were even close after needing 70+ with one wicket and the urn on the line, makes the victory one of the best test close outs in my life time.

@NTA Bigger problem was bowling too short and bad lines against Stokes and Leach in the last hour. Not to mention Lyons' fumble. Enormous credit to the two England players, but they were helped by a bit of Aussie panic and an awful decision by umpire Wilson

Just watched that LBW given not-out again and even one of the commentators thought it deflected off the front pad first.

But that’s what the review is there for. The Aussies got anxious with that last review which on live viewing looked well down leg.

Again the pressure was fever pitch at that point and Stokes looked like he wanted to barf at the non-strikers end...

Stokes deserves all the plaudits.WC final and now this. Pressure means nothing to him and that’s what separates the great from the all time great.

    A very very special sportsman.

    Never mind Stokes.

    What about his script-writer! 🙂

Summer of Stokes might be putting Botham's Ashes in the shade.

Holy shit - the man has some luck though!

Never mind the lbw, Lyon's fumble looked like a one-in-a-hundred event.

He'll be kicking himself. The batsman was so far down the track, it wasn't quite at Alan Donald level, but it was close. Sets things up for the rest of the series though

@canefan The batsman was as dead as when Trent Boult caught that ball on the boundary!

Edit: And on reflection, thank god he didn't manage to flick that ball to Guppy, because the poor bastard would've dropped it! 🙂

All time from Stokes. What a month or so he is having.

Great test match. That last wicket partnership is the stuff of legends.

Test cricket is fucking ace when it goes right isn't it?

The fact that Stokes was swinging at everything at the end there, one of those wide-ish skidders would’ve probably snagged the wicket.

What is crazy is all the drop catches (not easy ones), the half chances on the boundary, the shots getting past diving fielders to go for 4. It was surreal just watching it on TV. Would’ve been awesome to be at the ground particularly with about 5 overs to go and people started to believe
