Bowlers have to step up now. Terrible Middle order batting which is no surprise.
really familiar card for Australia over the past few years though, runs from 1 and top score from 4. Just a different name at 4...
Archer must think international cricket is a piece of piss

Especially home conditions where its grey overheard, but he's still putting it in the right area.
Will it be the same out here on a 39C day with a flat deck and the Kookaburra in his hand? Dunno.

yea, he'll just hate the bounce and pace in Australia...

150+ is still 150+!
He’d thrive with his late swing and pace.

Pace yes - but is less likely to get the same weaponised swing out of the Kookaburra in drier conditions.
Would anyone like to face him in the first hour at the Gabba? Fuck no. But in the middle session it would be a better bet.

No forecast rain for the next four days so should be a result:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2644688
Big pressure on the England batsman to post 300+. Captain Root will be under especial pressure to perform at his home ground.

Root to score a ton. England with a 300 run lead and skittle Australia for an innings victory.

@NTA England the firm favourites for this test, unless Australia get them out cheaply. Fill your boots time in terms of batting conditions for the next two days. The Headingly pitch normally cracks a bit if it gets some sunshine so Lyons will be a major weapon if it goes to a 4th innings.

Australian bowlers need a morning where they demonstrate why they're keeping Starc out of the side.
Tricky one, that. For starters he didn't have a superb CWC, and with the red ball has no great performances in recent memory.
But a left hander, with a known ability to swing the ball, and to scuff the pitch a bit for Lyon over the wicket at the RH bats...

Keh?!
Wasn't Starc one of the leading wicket takers?Thought he had an outstanding world cup.
EDIT: he was the leading wicket taker. A new record for world cups with 27.

CWC2019: 10 matches for 27 wickets @ 18.59 (SR 20.51)
CWC2015: 8 matches for 22 wickets @ 10.18 (SR 17.4)Ten point one fucking eight
Tell me he was as good in 2019 versus 2015. Can't be done.
It was interesting to look at each innings, too - working backwards:
England: 1/70 dismissing bat 2
South Africa: 2/59 dismissing bats 5 and 6
New Zealand: 5/26 dismissing 3, 5, 8, 9, 10
England: 4/43 dismissing 3, 4, 5, 9
Bangladesh: 2/55 dismissing 1 & 7
Sri Lanka: 4/55 dismissing 2, 4, 6, 7
Pakistan: 2/43 dismissing 9 & 10
India: 1/74 dismissing 2
West Indies: 5/46 dismissing 1, 6, 7, 8 & 10
Afghanistan: 1/31 dismissing 1Very hit and miss - distribution of wickets is fairly even but some of the runs conceded shows the price he paid - the semifinal, South Africa, and India really fucked his average. Hardly threatened the Ghanis either.
1: 3
2: 3
3: 2
4: 2
5: 3
6: 3
7: 3
8: 2
9: 4
10: 2 -
Detailed analysis NTA! Still doesn't take away from the fact that he was bloody good at the CWC.
I guess for me, the key is the hit-and-miss aspect you mention.
Sure he can be a bit wayward at times, but he also regularly produces a jaffer. The currently playing quick attack of Pattinson, Cummins and Hazelwood is good. I rate all 3 of them.
But none have the x-factor that Starc does in my view.
Plus he is a lefty. So you add variety and make the batsman have to adapt. The big question is who of the current 3 do you leave out for Starc...? Tough call.

The lack of an all rounder makes it harder for Starc to make the side. If they had a good 5th bowling option it would be easier to accept his inconsistency

Very good point.
Maybe they should reconsider the current policy of playing 3 keepers.... It's not like any of them are giving the scorers writers cramp of late.
